Lunch for a Sunday afternoon. Our 3-4 tries for a reservation elsewhere were rebuffed due to crowding, as this place is located in central St. Helena, but it was pleasingly easy to make one at the Goose & Gander. Whew! We came here because we'd dined here when it was the Martini House, which we liked very much. They could accurately be described as "bar bites". The grounds and old house are beautiful and provide an excellent and large restaurant and bar space. Don't miss the basement bar, it's quite amazing. They promote that they are a wine country public house. The service was pleasant, polite, compete, and not without a sense of humor. Our waiter was charming and engaging. To start, we ordered a generic Sauvignon Blanc, which was quite nice. We found the appetizers (Smoked Corn Croquettes, Cheeses (Cypress Grove Midnight Moon, Point Reyes Blue, Valley Ford Estero Gold, Fiscallini Bandage Cheddar, and Beemster), Charcuterie (Pate de Campagne, Finocchiona, Prosciutto, Sopressata, and Provenca), and Sides (Polenta Cakes, Duck Fat Fries, Yukon Gold Potato Puree, and Rainbow Carrots)) and salads (Salad of Romaine Hearts with Parmesan Blue Cheese Vinaigrette, Shaved Celery, Fuji Apples, Garden Radishes, and Spiced Pecans) the best part of the menu. Our only entree was the Arctic Char (Fennel Soubise, Tarragon, Delta Asparagus, Citrus Glazed Carrots), which was very similar to a salmon filet. It was tasty and satisfying. The Goose and Gander is a bit off the beaten path, but worth the search (1245 Spring Street, St. Helena Ca. 94574). Enjoy!

First night in St. Helena, and we were looking for a good place for dinner. I found this place nearby and managed to get a booking for the same night (to be fair, it was a Monday and not during the busy season). We arrived and got to sit outside in the lovely weather. Strangely, none of the mains really grabbed our attention, so we opted to split four starters: Foie gras (because foie gras), roasted bone marrow (because bone marrow), octopus and steak tartare. We also went for a bottle of Silver Oak wine. The food was absolutely heavenly. Every starter we had was delicious and just the right size. The sommelier came over to talk to us about our wine, and we informed him that we had been to the winery earlier where they served us a corked wine. He ended up hanging out at our table and chatting with us about wine for quite a long time. He seemed really impressed with my partner's wine knowledge. It's probably not often he gets people in that know a lot about European wines as he mentioned that most people seem to want Napa wines while in the valley (which makes sense). We opted to have cheese for dessert and had it with a nice tawny port. Unfortunately, dessert wines don't seem very common in Napa, unless it's a late harvest sauvignion blanc. But hey, tawny port is always good. There was a great selection of cheese with some nice homemade crackers to go with. If I'm back in the area, Goose and Gander will definitely be on my list of places to come back to. It was such a great experience with friendly service and great food.

G&G was a mixed bag for us. The decor is cute, the clientele a little on the white-trash-in-Napa-to-get-drunk-on-wine-tasting crowd. We started off with pickled veggies - something new on the menu. It tasted like feet. Bad start. For the main course, I had the scallops and my husband had the shrimp. Both were amazingly good, but the portions were on the small side. You'll definitely want to start your meal with a salad. The waiter forgot our sparking water and had to be reminded. Not a big deal, but then.... We ordered the chocolate dessert and the chocolate brioche. The chocolate came, but no brioche. After eating the chocolate, we flagged down the waiter and oops, he forgot. He asked if we still wanted it. Of course! What he didn't tell us is that it takes 20 minutes to bake. Mind you, we've been there 2 hours already, which actually is the biggest complaint we have the place. The service is S-L-O-W. It even wasn't that busy. Both desserts were delicious, and they did comp us the for the veggies and the desserts without us complaining, which was thoughtful. So, overall, an average review. Damn good food though.

Fantastic. Had the burrata and figs. Cheese was amazing, figs were super fresh, the pickled onions and basil oil tied it all together. Anything with their bread is delicious, the bread is all toasted over an open flame. The food is fairly priced.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had. I wish I had been hungrier that day so I could have tried more menu items. The grilled spanish octopus was awesome, so tender it just melts in your mouth. I had tried octopus a couple times in the past, primarily at sushi bars, where the octopus was cooked but still always seemed to have a fishy taste. The octopus at Goose & Gander does not taste fishy at all, you absolutely must try the grilled octopus here, you will fall in love! It was so good I was tempted to order a second portion for myself. I also had the roasted dates with gorgonzola, which were incredibly yummy. They are listed with the appetizers but were more like a dessert, and you really must try them as well. It was a beautiful day outside, so it was no surprise that when I arrived the outdoor patio area tables were all full. But the hostess arranged for another table to be brought out and setup for me so I could sit outside. Awesome customer service! My server Auri was so nice too, and was happy to answer my many questions about the menu. I hope I find myself in the Napa area again so that I can go back to this restaurant.

What a treat to find this place. Wonderful renditions of comfort food like tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches - better than Mom used to make. The atmosphere was comfortable and charming - Upstairs a touch of the British Isles, cozy bar downstars and the outdoors for people who want fresh air. They do some wonderful hand crafted drinks. But we judged many places by how they present a simple green salad. This one was perfect. Just enough dressing - light - fresh ingredients and with a lovely presentation. Top flight crew in front and back of the house.

the hamburger is legit. cocktails seemed to be light on alcohol...but that's ok. we had already had plenty of wine that day.

Goose & Gander occupies the same old Craftsman home as its popular predecessor, Martini House. It's a date-friendly, casual yet intimate Napa Valley restaurant and bar serving comfort food. On Sundays, you'll find live music outside where the patio/lawn seats over 80 people. Our lunch included duck fat fries and polenta cake appetizers, mushroom soup and a mashup of fried chicken and wedge salad. The tab for the light lunch wine/beer for 3 came to $70 plus tip. Highlights of the lunch were the polenta ($9) and the salad ($14). The boneless chicken is first pouch-boiled and then fried in a Rice Crispies or Special K coating that is crunchy enough to crack a wisdom tooth. It's a filling salad for the price. Enjoyed the polenta and the duck fries too, although we didn't notice much "duck fat" flavor in the fries. All in all, the front yard makes for a great Sunday afternoon lunch, while the cozy, dark interior and intimate downstairs bar are perfect for a romantic dinner. And, $15 corkage means you can open up that bottle you just bought earlier in the day! Roundup: Food: 3 - Heard the burger's great! Service: 4 - They're on it so you can just have fun. Setting: 5 - Cozy dining room and bar, evening dining outside, St. Helena location. Value: 3- There are lots more expensive in town! Date worthy: 4/5 - Fun on Sundays with live music, romantic at night. Dogs: Fuggedaboutem.

Very unique menu (who knew about hay cream??)..sometimes a little too unique for my tastes. The radish appetizer was so simple, but the radishes were fresh and acted as a great start. I tried the cucumber soup which I really wish I would have liked, but for some reason, there were pickles in the soup...like those long thin ones you can put on burgers. I was just plain confused and didn't eat much of it. I loved the hamachi crudo though!

Fried olives are a must. Everything was great. It's expensive, I'm not going to lie, but life is short... do you really want to be buried with your money? No, you don't-- so treat yo'self. We brought our lapdog in with us and sat on the patio for dinner. I got her the duck confit, she loved it. I took a few bites, it was pretty damn tasty. They made good old fashions and treated my dog well, beautiful patio, nice waiter... We will be back!

I used to love to drink and much here when it was Martini House. That chef is now at Kitchen door but i think G&G as a successor is a great replacement. Good cocktails and fries. Boozing between meals is excellent and a good place to people watch too. Still has its charm. 4.3 stars

Fun place to visit. Atmosphere is great for any mood. Can sit outside on patio, in a more formal dining room, or stowed away down below in a heavy wood bar. Craft cocktails, solid wine list and food is very good. We had a big group and sampled the menu.

Located just a block off the main street running through St Helena the Goose & Gander is covered in black leather booths and dark woods but still adequately lighted. The kitchen is open and you can tell Chef likes things they way he likes things and that is fine with me. I like my chef to have high standards. Many of the locals told me they have the best burger in Napa so I had to try and I was not disappointed. I started with the Pardon Peppers and got about 20 little peppers sautéed with garlic and salt. That were SO tasty. My sister and I both ordered the burger. She added bone marrow to her burger and I had mine without. The burger was 10oz and delicious. It was a grass fed burger and wonderfully juicy and the sauce on the burger was good too. The locals were raving about the bone marrow, but my sister did not think it added that much to the burger. We could have probably split the burger. They came with some duck fat fries. They were good, but I am not sure I could tell the difference between duck fat fries and regular fries. All and all my advice is get the burger and you will not be disappointed.

I hate to say it but our experience at G&G was a little disappointing. We ordered the fried olives and spicy pistachios to start.. which were great with cocktails. Highly recommend that part. Next we opted for the braised meatballs with goat cheese and cherry tomatoes, the polenta cakes, the shaved summer squash salad with pine nuts and feta, and the manila clam pasta with chorizo. All were very tasty... the pasta in particular was delicious.. and the salad was super fresh and crisp... but the meatballs and the polenta came out lukewarm and I would have preferred the whole ensemble to be coursed out instead of coming out all at once. Sitting there trying to eat everything before it got cold(er) was unfortunate. Additionally, I was sitting outside and the temperature had steadily dropped from the high 80's during the day.. way down to the low 50's... so we asked to move tables under a heat lamp. We told not to worry about moving... they would bring the heat lamp to us which was very thoughtful.. except it took 30 minutes for that to happen. Meanwhile.. freezing. :-/ Our server was similarly slow with the wine. We had wanted to order a bottle.. asked for some consultation and it just took excessively long for him to return with the Somm.. and then return with the bottle we ordered. There were very few tables left in the restaurant and yet we were pretty much halfway through our meal by the time the wine arrived. So.. good food, cocktails and wine but just not the best service that day... Maybe an off day.. YMMV... I may go back for a cocktail and an appetizer but I think for the premium price one pays for dinner in the area, I'd rather go elsewhere next time.

A wonderful place for lunch when in the Napa Valley - so good that we went twice in a week (despite all the other options). Basically a beautiful garden shielded from the casual bustle of St Helena and the traffic by very tall hedges. They also have a 'below street level' bar which is probably really cool in the evenings! Reminded me of a real English pub. My wife was enamored with the radishes and sea salt as an appetizer. The G&G burger (grass fed beef and gruyere cheese) is probably the best burger I have ever had, couple it with the duck-fat fries and you will be in Heaven. Take a side salad to make up for all those wonderful fats in your burger and fries, a glass of red wine and all is right with the World!!

Classic food and extensive liquor list in a steakhouse type of ambience. #restaurantreview Menu includes cheese, charcuterie, salads and then the classic entrees: burger, steak, fish, prawns. Wide selection of whiskey, bourbon, other liquors and of course wine. Dessert menu has a handful of options. We got the peanut butter cup and the walnut bar; both were very good. Overall, this is a solid choice. There will be something for everyone and the service is pleasant. 3.5 stars.

The food was really good. Everything was played well and cooked well. The decor and the layout of the restaurant was also very serene and relaxing I gave this restaurant a 3 bc of their service. It wasn't busy even though we came for dinner ok Mother's Day. So I wasn't sure what the issue was. The vibe with the staff seemed like they were confused and mismanaged. They def do not make you feel like your in an upscale restaurant perhaps that's not what they were going for.

Bali spiced old fashion - too much star anise for me. The spices were a nice touch. Scarlet gander - I could drink this all day. Light, sweet, and a bit tart. Cucumber Collins - Looks stunning, especially with the huckleberries! Very refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. Mellivora Capensis - Honey badger don't care what's in this drink so you shouldn't either. Just order it and enjoy :D Smoked corn croquettes- these disappeared in a flash. I love the roasted red pepper dip. Salt + radishes - A medley of fresh garden picked organic radishes served with anchovie butter and sea salt. These are my favorite summer time snack and I thought they were much better than the ones I had over at the Girl and the Fig in Sonoma. G&G Burger (I added bone marrow on top) with duck fat fries - I was let down by this. The burger was too rare (I almost never say this) and therefore not as savory or juicy. I also don't like how hard the buns were, it was impossible to eat as a burger. Me and 4 of my friends ended up using our utensils in order to eat this. The fries also tasted very plain and ordinary. It's pretty bad if I think In-N-Out fries are better. I personally love the duck fat fries from the Plumed Horse in Saratoga. Fried chicken salad - I didn't taste any of the salad but the chicken alone was cooked perfectly. They sous vide the chicken breast to lock in all the juicy flavor and fried it too perfection. I had to stop myself from eating it all and abandoning my burger! Service was friendly but SUPER slow for everything. Even getting the check took 20+ minutes!

Came here twice but only for drinks in the underground bar area. This is one of the few places in Napa that's open late. I can't speak for the food but the cocktails are excellent. Every drink I've ever tasted from here (probably over 10 different kinds) have all tasted really good with the exception of one but hey we all can't be perfect can we? The one bad drink had a little too much ginger for me which means it's too much for most people because I LOVE ginger. Anyway, try the cocktails here if you're looking for a break from wine in Napa.

If you want to sit on the patio for lunch/dinner (and you absolutely want to sit on the patio), MAKE A RESERVATION. We walked in for dinner and the lush, upscale, comfortable patio was full, but the inside dining room was empty, and the bar was downstairs doing pretty good business, but we didn't even know that part of the building was there until we used the restrooms down there. The restaurant specializes in incredibly well-made cocktails. The vibe is very prohibition-esque (or even earlier), with dark wood. The basement bar has a FULLTIME ice chipper, who shapes ice into large cubes for drinks, from ice blocks shipped in from San Francisco, where it is frozen in completely crystal clear blocks. The ceiling is low in the bar, but everything is done in warm tones so it doesn't feel overwhelming. Our servers name escapes me but he recommended drinks and was very knowledgeable about the menu, and they are flexible with substitutions. They bring an amuse-bouche of cream of mushroom soup to the table... I didn't know I liked cream of mushroom soup until then. It's delicious. Everyone got something different for dinner, from the grass-fed beef burger, to clams, to a heritage pork T-bone, to the farmers market salad, and everything was plated beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed! Being in the heart of Napa, they have an extensive wine list, but we were all wined out from touring that day, and so one of our party got a Manhattan, and one of our party got the Coastal Pimm's Cup end everyone else had to rehydrate themselves with water. Their dessert menu is interesting and unique as well. We ended up splitting an order of the ice creams. Mocha, salted caramel and one other that escapes me at the moment.. they were SO so good. Next time we visit wine country, I would love to return to this spot and call with plenty of time ahead to sit outside.

I'm not sure how or why we wound up here. A random grab from the list of possibilities based on walkability to our hotel. I had no expectations other than emptying out our wallets coupled with a heavy buzz. We got there about 20 minutes early and they redirected us to the bar. Upon entering the bar, which is situated in the basement of an 1920 Craftsman bungalow I was captivated. After a bourbon for me and white wine for my wife were served up, we had a moment to savor the downstairs environment while waiting for our table. Sure a cross hatched tumbled marbled bar with copper edging does not say shit about the food, but it does say something about attention to detail. That coupled with the acorn lanterns and filament bulbs created an inviting atmosphere to enjoy our cocktails. After we were seated upstairs, I drank in the surroundings. Think arts and crafts steakhouse. The pate was sublime and the food delicious. Our server was attentive and pleasant making the entire experience one I will do again.

Well well. The food was enjoyable and presentation was exceptional but even for someone who doesn't eat very much, there was just not enough on the plate. I left hungry. I guess that's pretty typical in Napa?

I received a recommendation to Goose & Gander from two staff members at nearby Von Strasser Winery to kick off my best friend's bachelorette weekend. To say I was pleased is an understatement. We dined in the tavern, A MUST. It used to be a speakeasy and has tons of character. We kicked off the meal by sharing a large cheese board and cocktails, including a Cucumber Collins which I had. Alcoholic spa water? Yum! My friend had the ginger drink (I can't remember the name) and it was also delicious. Much like a moscow mule with more awesome flavors. For lunch, the bride-to-be and myself ordered the G&G burger with bone marrow! It is the BEST BURGER I have EVER had, and she felt the same. Don't even bother trying anything else. Your heart will be content with this delicious order. The next time I am in the area, I will be stopping here again! It was such a wonderful experience with great food.

I wanted to share my sentiments I shared with the server and the manager on the night of my reservation (Feb 14, 2015). What an extreme disaster and disappointment the entire experience was -from making the reservation on open table and having it cancelled x 2, to arriving to the entrance and bar overrun with people, to the hostess seating us while walking at such a brisk pace I couldn't keep up with her in heels, to the service staff running past us while they served other tables, to waiting to be greeted for at least 10 minutes, to the sommelier offering the $55 flight or the $110 flight with little explanation of the difference (except the $110 was more special from the wine cellar), to the set up on the wine station in plain sight with bottles. boxes and corks a mess over the table and room, to the same course arriving twice! while the manager did comp the check, he did not seem that interested in our feedback about the experience which was the primary reason for speaking up about it in the first place.

Wow! Amazing! Especially after the disaster of Cindy Pawlcyn ' s Backstreet Kitchen a few weeks earlier. We finally came here, neither of us all that wowed about their menu but G&G had been recommended to us so often, we needed to try it. All I can say is OMG, Wow! From the cocktails to a pretty good wine list to the service to each appetizer and entree to dessert, AMAZING! Things that didn't sound the most exciting on the menu are magically intriguing and super delish! Can't wait to come back!

Nice little neighborhood restaurant in St. Helena with a hunting lodge feel to it (hence the name Goose & Gander). Dishes we tried include the smoked octopus served with fresh greens and a couple salads. It seems like one can never go wrong ordering salads in Napa. Chefs take great pride in presenting seasonal ingredients in the most delicious ways possible. The bar downstairs is a little small and fills up fast. The best part of the meal was actually afterwards when we walked around downtown St. Helena in the moonlight looking at storefront windows - so peaceful and serene.

This was one of the best meals we had in Napa. We started with a drink across the street at Trivinge but decided we wanted to try out Goose and Gander for dinner and I think we were all happy we did. The place is dark and musky feeling in the best way possible. Like an old mobster parlor mixed with a hunting lodge. The bar downstairs was super lively and we were seated upstairs (with a reservation) and a nice, big comfy booth. Our waitress was awesome and had great recommendations for us. We started with gnocchi which was out of this world and one of their cheese plates with prosciutto, etc...also very good but it seems like every single restaurant in Napa has a charcuterie board so by this point I just grew to expect the same thing on them. I started with the Arugula/Pear salad...standard but very nice and light and for my entrée I had the scallops which have a different preparation weekly from what I understand. These were the best scallops I have ever had. I can't give exact details on the preparation because they were read to me and not listed on the menu, but they were seared perfectly and served on some sort of polenta cake with a mushroom sauce topped with bacon, carmelized mushrooms and onions and a little drizzle of chimichurri. I know it sounds like a bizarre mix of flavors and textures, and it was...but either someone threw this together and got really lucky or they put a lot of thought into how this dish would come together and hit the nail on the head. It was perfect. A couple people at our table got the Sturgeon and didn't like it as much as I was obsessing over my scallops, but still said it was very good. Someone else with us ordered the mushroom soup which I tried and loved. I know for sure we had desserts...maybe a cheesecake and a couple other things...nothing that stood out entirely but everything was just done really, really well. I would definitely return and definitely recommend.

The Bali Spice Old Fashioned was the best cocktail I've ever tasted. It also had the most beautiful hunk of ice in it. The crispy olives were a great compliment. The flat iron steak was cooked just perfectly with great accompaniments. The atmosphere was perfect. I can't wait to go back to Goose & Gander. (Unfortunately both stalls in the women's restroom weren't functioning since the door didn't lock on one and the other was out of order.)

Phenomenal experience! Wonderful attentive service. Arrived around 8pm Sunday night without reservation with group of 4. They squeezed us in downstairs. All service was courteous and efficient. Food was really delicious and so well prepared. Roasted corn croquettes were a really tasty and pleasant appetizer.

After a full day in Safari West, we came here for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We were seated in the middle of the room which made me feel quite uncomfortable so I had advised someone that as soon as the corner booth is available, we would like to be moved.. And so we did after 15 minutes of waiting and finishing our first 2 courses. I really appreciate that they accommodate the moving of the table and we are now in a cozier booth. Now to start of with the food- we had: 1) Radishes - red, black and rainbow radish with a anchovy paste and sea salt - really good and great way to cut the greasiness of our steak tartare 2) Steak Tartare - really good but need more bread to eat with it. 3) Crab cake version - was really good but cannot find the name in online menu 4) Grilled octopus with salad - really good and tender octopus 5) Mushroom soup- creamy and tasty 6) G&G burger with added bone marrow for $3- very tasty served with duck fat fries 7) Wild mushrooms on the side- very good and plenty to share Our server, forgot his name, was very helpful and paired our meals wonderfully . He also suggested a good wine to go with our meal and we also ordered a few of their cocktails which were very good. I truly enjoyed my birthday dinner here. It was cozy, romantic in our booth and good atmosphere. The place was not very dressy and was casual. I would definitely come back if I am in the area. The only miss is that they don't have a good array of desserts to choose from but we were eyeing the chocolate soufflé at PRESS anyway:D

I don't have enough good things to say about Goose & Gander, and I've only eaten here once! My girlfriend and I both decided to get the G&G burger and it was fantastic. Corn croquettes for appetizer which were delicious when dipped with the red bell pepper sauce. Cherry on top: the manager came out after our meal to check on us and the quality of our meal. Great customer service overall, and I will definitely be back.

For fabulous handcrafted cocktails sneak downstairs to the hidden bar at goose and gander. Hubby and I tried the Walters Manhattan and the scarlet gander. Both of those cocktails were beautifully presented with unique ingredients like Yuzu, rhubarb herbs, roots and custom infusions. All juices are squeezed fresh and the cocktail menu is extensive. A little gem in St. Helena!

Such a wonderful experience! After a long day of wine tastings we wanted something more casual and approachable. We had a drink in the basement to start; it was awesome! Great craft cocktails. I ordered the famous burger and it was rich, decadent, and really well cooked. I've never had a juicier burger. The fried olives were an awesome appetizer!

While there was nothing really wrong with the food provided, the quantity delivered to the table was pretty disappointing. The 'small' cheese plate had five cheeses that I would guess was less than a total of 1 ounce of cheese. I used to work at a cheese store and we would have happily provided all these as samples; here it was a 'small plate' with three or four tasty crackers about a dozen pistachio nuts and quince compote. The 'wild and tame' mushrooms were overcooked and leathery. The octopus was the smallest portion I have ever seen...less 1/2 one tentacle of a not very large octopus, while good we were expecting quite a bit more! Romaine salad was good but the anchovies (2) were not the quality that should be served at a good restaurant. Without the salad we would have had to stop somewhere else to survive the 2 hour ride home before we starved. Service was ok, but we did have to ask for water a few times.

Dinner while we were in Napa for a few days. The only thing I'd say is that their G&G burger is one intense burger... and I mean that in a good way. The big piece of beef, generous amount of bone marrow on top (!) and the tasty buns made for one juicy, messy, over the top burger. I can see why this burger is their namesake. It's that one dish that people remember, talk about, and recommend to friends and family. And did I mention it comes with a side of duck fat fries?? Oh and the cocktails were de-lish. Beautiful as well as delicious, you can't go wrong with anything on their drink menu. Cute decor, great service. Worth a visit if you're in the area!!

Stopped by here after wine touring around Napa based on the Yelp reviews. Main food service stops after around 3pm, but there is a limited bar menu available. We had some of their duck fat fries and a paté plate, both of which were very well done -- especially the duck fat fries, they were so savoury and delicious! I wish I had the opportunity to sample their full menu though, this place seems like it'd be a great post-wine-tour destination.

Have always been a fan of this restaurant. This time I got the meatball appetizer and duck fat fries. Yum! A little overpriced, but the service really makes up for it. Favorite drinks are the Cucumber Collins, and Scarlet Gander. :)

We went in because they had an Octopus dish that we were craving. Place has an old feel to it but we felt it was great after days of visiting other venues trying to outdo each other. The octopus was not the greatest but we did discover the Bone Marrow. One of the best I've had. You must try. Also, the Quail was presented perfect and delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive. Come with a small group and enjoy. Don't expect the most and you will get all you need

I'm a Napa native and have tasted a fair share of restaurants throughout the valley. Goose & Gander is my new favorite! I went for dinner with a group. I'd equally go for lunch, with a date, and definitely for a summer meal outdoors. Drinks The bali old fashioned was perfectly spiced and served with a gigantic ice cube. I loved that G&G has many half bottle options for wine. Food Great portions; we each finished our plates and left perfectly satisfied. The entrees were perfectly cooked and sides to each dish were ideal complements. The octopus appetizer had a great charred taste and tenderness. Salads were clearly fresh & local greens and a nice size. Flat iron steak was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the perfectly cooked farro accompaniment. But the t-bone pork may have won the night; it was juicy & delicious. The Atlantic Char was buttery and again, perfectly cooked. The burger is delicious, but not exceptional. We got it with bone marrow but couldn't really discern the marrow taste. The duck fat fries had only the most subtle taste of duck fat. Most in the group said they tasted like regular fries. It was good, but everything else was far superior and more interesting. Service Service was a bit over the top. The restaurant was packed yet we got welcomed and offered assistance 4 times before we even looked at the menu. It was a nice eagerness though. Ambiance Wood and low lights. Outdoor patio strung with lights. It's cozy & intimate for a date, yet fun and casual for dinner with anyone. The acoustics are great; it was bustling but wasn't too loud to have a conversation. I'm looking forward to going back to try the bone marrow appetizer and dine on the patio!

Holy yum batman! The food is fantastic! Did not buy wine here because it is very expensive but instead paid corkage to have my own bottle opened. The staff is very nice but the place is pricy!

Heard it from a friend that this place is really good, and decided to check it out for myself. As you walk in, you get a sense that this place is no joke. Absolutely amazing restaurant, cocktails are great, my old fashion was awesome! My friends and I ordered few small bites for starters, I had a burger, wife had fish. Everything was wonderful, really enjoyed it, although sturgeon could have been cooked a bit more, maybe a min or two Deserts were outstanding as well. Ice cream and pudding are to die for. I highly recommend this place for a wonderful brunch in St. Helena area. Go for a walk around after, you will have to walk all those calories off for sure!

On a family vacation of 6, ordered bunch of apps and mains. Again on the review I'm going to start with the goods before the bad. The good, environment is good, waiter is friendly and location is decent. The octopus dish was flavoured well but a little over charcoaled for my taste and I'm worry of getting cancer. The bad, we've ordered 6 apps and 5 of them didn't meet an average standard in taste. The scallops were rubbery and the sauce was terrible. One of the salad literally taste and smelled like it was mixed in the trash. The t bone pork was undercooked, RAW effing PORK for my senior father in law. RAW! The salmon was overcooked outside and undercooked inside. And the steaks that we ordered was cooked inconsistent, one side is mediam rare to the rare side, the other is well done. I expect more being in Napa, sorry for giving you this review. But you should apologize for serving this level of food to human beings.

Service and food were both let - downs. Busy Saturday night left us often wondering where our server was...and the other servers delivering salads, apps etc didn't know which dish went to whom, and didn't notice when a previous server had taken our silverware and hadn't given us new silverware... so we waited to eat our salads before having to ask the hostess for silverware. The radish app was not good..it was just..radishes. the halibut special and sturgeon entrees were heavy with their accompaniments of saucy, buttery vegetable mixtures (would've liked a lighter side of steamed veggies or similar). The farmers market salad was good, but having to wait for silverware and ask for cracked pepper was not.

It's traditional French. The place is very fancy with old things and long table. The restaurant has a garden also. So we have a pleasure time here. I ordered a dark leg. The sauce is a little sour, but the dark is juicy! it's palatable.

Excellent service, food, cocktails and wine menu. The hamburger was cooked to order and the fries were amazing. The olives and pistachio appetizer and the corn fritters were fried perfectly. The Manhattan on the menu was great as well as their wine list. I will definitely be back!

Came here for lunch during a day exploring Napa. Definitely glad we had a reservation because this place was busy. Nice service and good food... The duck fat fries are a must!!

We tried this place based on some glowing recommendations but we already had late dinner plans so we decided have just some small plates to try it out. We got the G&G burger (w/ bone marrow), duck fat fries, and wild mushrooms. We also had a couple drinks. The cucumber coolie was excellent. Likewise the burger (rich and juicy). The mushrooms on the other hand was dry and bland. The fries were good, but nothing to write home about. Service was terrible. After we sat down we were never offered so much as a glass of water. The food and drinks were slow to arrive despite being only 1 of 6 tables there. We saw someone who looked like the manager walking around but he would only check on one table (must have been some important guests) and our waiter, though friendly, was rather inattentive.

I so wanted to like this place. It is a great space. Outside dining. Live music. Basement bar. But...service was ssssslllllooww.. Food was not good at all. The burger was very greasy and flavorless. Too bad. They seem like they tried hard

A great restaurant to stop by for a bite between tastings if you're in the St. Helena area. Their charcuterie plate packed a lot of punch (for only $14) and we had fried corn balls with a delicious spicy dipping sauce. Kind of hard to find, but parking is plentiful on the residential roads. Service was speedy and friendly and has both a beautiful bar area and patio for catching some rays. Make time for this one!

This place is truly fantastic. Friendly and accommodating service are a staple in St. Helena and this place exceeds any expectations in that regard. As for the food...Literally one of THE BEST burgers I have ever had. High quality beef with bacon and gruyere cheese and the option of roasted bone marrow drizzled on top for a few dollars extra. The fried olives are out of this world, fresh salads offer a change of pace if you need something lighter and last but not least their mixologist in the bar is one of the best there is! Drinks are broken down by page so you can select your cocktail based on whether it's a vodka, rum, whisky etc. creation. An absolute must after a day up valley wine tasting or sight seeing and absolutely trumps competitors in the area that receive a lot more hype.

The blonde lady dragging her feet as if she was wearing Japanese slippers ruined my dining experience. WALK for god sakes! Dwight server was exceptional as was the octopus!! Nice ambience.

This place was perfect..upscale/trendy/and happen'. We loved the how the bar was downstairs.. the selection of Whiskey was incredible... Their drinks were some of the best I have had.. I want to pick up this place and put it in the Mission District. The group of people who pull these drinks together need a raise. I had Bourbon Buck, (garnished with fresh nutmeg on top).. as well as a Bali Spice Old Fashion.. One of the greatest things that I enjoyed about this place was their attention to detail.. they even "craft" their own ice.. by offering you one giant ice cube (that we all know helps to keep the drink colder and with more surface mass to reduce the watering down of your beloved cocktail.

Holy cow was the food, cocktails and wine were spectacular. Fried olives lived up to every review. Not so sure about the marrow on top of the burger. I really enjoyed it but as an idea, not sure you could really tell it was there other than the very slippery burger. One of the chefs had an epic rant while we were there. Very Gordon Ramsey of them. We enjoyed it.

Incredible hamachi crudo, well done charcuterie plate, and super good cocktails. There are a lot of great restaurants in the area, but Goose and Gander really is exceptional. Will be back next time we're in the area.

***************************** 1,060 ******************************* I got to meet chef Kelly McCown at Passmore Ranch for a special Supper dinner last month. His cooking talent blown me away. I couldn't wait to take my friends to Napa Valley to try out Goose and Gander. Goose and Gander is a beautiful place, with the lounge on the bottom floor, spacious outdoor lounge, cozy fireplace indoor bar, and an adjacent gorgeous garden. The main dining room floor was warm, inviting, rustic but elegant, red leather booths, charming wooden tables, setting, and an open kitchen which I love. It's such a perfect spot for date, so romantic, you should check it out. With that said, we arrived and it was raining hard outside. The first thing was the manager (I guessed he was the manager) asked about my dog. I showed him the assistant dog tag, he took a picture and explained that other guests might not like it. I never had any restaurant manager takes a picture of the assistant dog tag in my life!? And trust me, I eat out 5 days a week! OK so I got it. But wouldn't you want to greet us first? Just because I look normal, doesn't mean I'm not ill. Just because my tiny toy poodle is not a yellow lab, doesn't mean he can't be an assistant dog! Don't judge the book by its cover! My dog is legit, or I can call the ADA for you. Our hostess almost had us sit down at the booth by the kitchen, then the manager moved us to the corner booth because we have a 6 lbs miniature poodle assistant dog. The menu looks amazing and the food of chef Kelly McCown surely live up to it. I told my friends about him, so the expectation was high. - Smoked Corn Croquettes with bell pepper dipping sauce - all my friends loved this dish. It was crunchy when you first bite it, and it was moist and soft inside with the pepper sauce, oh gracious goodness yummy! - Grilled Spanish Octopus ~ Smoked Paprika, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Frisee, Apples, and Sauce Gribiche - this was delicious. - Salad of Chicories and Smoked Trout ~ Creamy Lemon Vinaigrette, Fuji Apples, Pinenuts, and Capers - plenty for trout on this plate, it was so good Tara A. loved it. - Cream of MusHroom Soup ~ Wild and Tame Mushrooms - our server recommended and he was right on, creamy, buttery, soothing on your tongue goodness. MUST TRY. - Scottish Salmon ~ Shaved Brussels Sprouts, Chanterelle Mushrooms, Celery Root, and Crispy Prosciutto - gorgeous plating, perfectly cooked, moist and almost raw center, beautiful! - The G&G Burger ~ Grass Fed Beef, Gruyere Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Duck Fat Fries - the meat was thick, juicy even when you squeeze the bun. Julie K. , Daisy T. and my friend Charlie couldn't stop praise about it. I got a bite and oh boy it was good. MUST ORDER! - Grilled California Sturgeon ~ Artichokes, Green Garlic, Piccolo Farro, Oyster Mushrooms, and Roasted Lemon - I enjoyed this dish every bit of it. ORDER ANY FISH DISHES HERE! - Salted caramel chocolate was also delicious. Wine list was good, but the bottle I ordered Cru 29 Vineyards, Howell Mountain 2009, the server brought out 2011. He checked with the manager. He offered us Spence Vineyards, same appellation, cost more. I was a bit disappointed. He should either honor the price or offer us something similar price, not higher. I'm surprised a nice restaurant with this caliber in Napa Valley could have this minor mistake on the vintage on their menu. During our lunch, the window by where Julie K. was sitting at, was leaking, we asked for a towel, the manager gave us the towel, but never offered us to move. I was so surprised by that. The booth next to us was empty. Our server and busboy were nice and attentive, made up for the mishap by the manager. We left happy because the food was good, but all wonder the service surely got room for improvement. The manager was nicer at the end, but my friends and I didn't feel the hospitality that we receive here, at a Michelin Star recommended restaurant, was at par! And we've been to many; We've expected a smoother service. We will come back to check out dinner and the cocktails at the lounge. I heard they are 1 of the best in town. We'll be back. P.S. their social media is really active, follow them on Instagram and Twitter: @GooseGanderNapa

The hamburger is tasty and tender as is. The marrow over rated and makes the burger too oily. We ordered the marrow to satisfy our curiosity but do not eat it. The basement is cozy but very noisy. KK

Came over tonight to try the cuisine of the new chef (howard) formerly from meadowland. Outstanding. Incredible. Out if this world. Radishes. Octopus. The burger. The burger. The burger. The beet cake for dessert. The music. The service. Nothing less than perfect. Outstanding. Perfect. Incredible. A experience comparable to any 2+ star restaurant. Out of this world.

One of my favorite bar in Napa Valley, upscale yet intimate. Their semi-underground lounge is perfect for their wonderfully crafted cocktails and small bites. I like this almost "off the beaten path" place, comfy with well arranged decor, serving ware, and dining spaces. You know they take their drinks seriously when they hands you a thick leather-bonded menu with a table of contents on top of a well formatted wine-list. Our waitress, attentive and considerate, timingly brought out our drinks and little bites. The Bali spiced old fashion ($12) was wonderfully executed, the precise dosage of spice, sweetness, really complimented the bourbon. The plate of fried olives and spiced pistachios ($6) really hit the spot. A plate of lightly fried polenta cakes ($6) were like edible gold medallions, that delightful starchy sweetness with a little crust really sings. The fries were only alright, as good as it gets but it wasn't a wow factor for me. This place, for an occasional splurge, totally worth it. I am giving this place a four star because I haven't get a chance to try their real menu food, I know I would pay them a visit soon. Cheers.

Let's start with the Manhattan with an ice cubed sculpted from the gods. We recently had a company holiday party here and the folks could not be nicer and the food - outstanding. Strongly recommend for large events, intimate dinners or even the massive hangover burger. Go here, you will not be disappointed.

Came here and sat outside on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing gets better than enjoying a craft cocktail here and a burger. The Bali spiced old fashioned was amazing! Hints of cloves, cinnamon, and star anise, combined with orange bitters was a fantastic touch. Went really well with their corn and cheese croquets..simply delicious. Burger was just the way I desired it, and came alongside some tasty fries. The next time I am back in st. Helena this will def be a must stop eatery during the day in between vineyards.

We had a wonderful experience here! Our waiter, Nate, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The atmosphere was very laid back with great music. The special of the day, a grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup was the best my boyfriend has ever had. We told our waiter this and he went and got us the recipe for the soup from the chef! Now that is pretty amazing--to have a chef share their recipe! Though it was our first visit to this restaurant we will definitely come back the next time we are in town.

We love this place. Great service (twice our server was Thomas and the second time a couple months later he remembered us). Some things we've tried: Octopus - If I could only have one dish here, this would be it. Perfectly cooked, tender with a little char. Good balance of flavors. Best octopus I've ever had. Scarlet Gander - a lovely drink - imaginative and flavorful. Scallops - flavorful with tasty piquillo pepper salad Burger - you can put bone marrow on it (what? How does that not make you happy?) duck fries so tasty. Prawns - so flavorful, wish I didn't have to peel them, but if you're going to make me peel them, then I'm gonna lick my fingers so that buttery goodness doesn't ruin my dress when it runs down my arms;-/ the polenta cake is a little too drenched in butter for me to eat all of it. Charcuterie plate - a little carnival of wonders. How have I never had caper berries before? Sopressata isn't just fun to say! T-bone pork good in summer -- a bit sweeter than the spring version of this dish, which is even better Sturgeon or was it swordfish? with farro - so perfectly cooked and delicious, a little heavy on the salt though Definitely a place to return to as often as possible. Bar downstairs is pretty cool, too.

Honestly, I'm sure it was more delicious than we gave it a chance to be but I wasn't impressed. The location was great, but the menu was limited. Everyone was so sweet and knowledgeable and the dishes we did taste were cooked to perfection. Curious to come back and explore it one more time.

Almost really great.... I would go back in the evening for cocktails in their underground bar. It has an intimate "speakeasy feel" downstairs. I love the music and the atmosphere!!..... I wonder if they ever have live music outside?... that would be a nice bonus. Regarding the food, I think the menu is pretty "heavy" with lots of creamy items. The scallops were our favorite item and the bread/butter was nice. I thought the burger was just okay... my husband liked the burger better. The duck fat fries were the best that I have ever had. (The location is one block off the main street.)

Best burger in the valley! I think I've tried every burger and this one wins. I always sit in the bar downstairs. It's such a great atmosphere. The jars of flowers and herbs along the bar are beautiful and fun to look at. I love watching them make all the amazing cocktails with them. Always playing great music too! If you haven't been, definitely put it on your list.

Wow, this hidden Napa gem is delicious! First off, they have foie gras, and it's incredible. Second off, the Berkshire porkT-Bone was the best prepared pork I've ever had - I'm a big fan!

Cocktails and the bar are a real standout here! One of the better Moscow Mules I have had! All of the cocktails on the menu are interesting and I enjoyed a sip of the various drinks ordered at my table- all fantastic. The appetizers were equally amazing- especially the warmed olives. This is a beautiful restaurant which reminds one a bit of a hunting lodge with large comfortable booths. Very cool bar located downstairs. Goose & Gander is suitable for a small group of friends as well as a romantic date.

5 Stars for the cocktails alone. We mentioned we were dining here to some wine pros and they said you must check out the downstairs bar and the cocktails. Apparently they have an award winning mixologist who does great libations. I tried the Pim's cup and my fiance tried the Cucumber signature drink. They were both amazing, really cool flavors and unique ingredients. We had to eat early, and quickly, so we both got the burger. It was cooked perfectly and I decided to get the Bone Marrow on top. This was my first time eating Bone Marrow and it was very cool, a fatty aioli like spread that really compliments the burger. Will definitely come back with friends, probably for after dinner drinks the next time we are in Napa.

Great atmosphere in the bar area downstairs. Really good food. Foie Gras on the menu now. Tried the mushroom soup and grilled octopus salad which were both delicious. Excellent, friendly bartenders. I will be back for sure.

I absolute love the restaurant, the ambiance and the staff, but I'm giving this restaurant a 3 stars rating because I was quite disappointed with my meal. I ordered the burger with melted bone marrow for an additional $3 and seriously, it was lacking in flavour. The burger was under seasoned in my opinion and I barely tasted the bone marrow. On a bright side, the bacon were pretty crispy!

Cocktail heaven! I posted some pics of this below ground bar, and am still amazed at the breadth and depth of what is available here. This is a drink only review - we did not eat. Specialty drinks galore, rare whiskies and rums, and the freshest mix ingredients (many of whcih are in planters right on the bar) make this a terrific afternoon or late night spot (we hear is is popular among the local winemaking crowd after hours). We loved it and had to stop after our two-drink event. Sad, but we'll be back!

Could be one of the Top 5 restaurants I've eaten at. Party of 6 and we all got something different and loved it. Food was great from appetizer to main dish. Sorry, we were too stuffed to do dessert. Service and atmosphere was top notch.

The drinks are good and very flavorful. The gnocchi is amazing and melts in your mouth. Also I always go with the burger with bone marrow and it is so good. Duck fat fries are a awesome addition as well.

I was really looking forward to a lunch here after reading reviews and it was.... well, disappointing. We got the lunch "special," which was cut up fried chicken on a large french toasted roll with some sort of bratwurst smeared on one side of the bread. Although a creative idea, and we love bratwurst, it was rather dry and uneventful. AND, it was rather pricey. The environment was entertaining and fun, but we won't be back.

Normally G&G nails all aspects of the dining experience, not so recently. Food: A+, sumptuous, innovative, visually appealing Service: A+, friendly but not cloying, knowledgeable but not haughty We don't mind paying the $130+ for a beer, burger, salad and a few appetizers. The G&G food is just that good and the service we had on this particular night was as gracious, attentive and intelligent as it gets. The atmosphere is normally so enjoyable that it provides an exceptional backdrop for the chefs' consistently exceptional work. Atmosphere: D- On this winter night the restaurant's "atmosphere" flirted with being identical to that outside, which was about 30 degrees F. We were seated in the main area, adjacent to the entrance. Every time anyone went in or out, all dozen or so of us who were so unlucky to be seated in the main area got blasted by the cold air. A couple of times, the hostess even left the door open while getting coats for departing patrons. It was simply miserable and those of us seated in the arctic chill zone started to "bond" over the unpleasant situation. It was challenging to enjoy the amazing food through our chattering teeth. Hospitality: D-, ugh, another pretentious hostess (St. Helena breeds them in the pasture behind our old railroad station) who seemed annoyed when I suggested they make some changes on chilly nights to lessen the deep freeze in our seating area. Do we head back again soon ? Probably, the food and service were just that great. Our suggestion for the winter is to make certain you get a seat on the other side of one of the walls from the front door.

I came her for lunch for my birthday before embarking on a day of wine tasting. Absolutely loved my experience here. We ate at the downstairs bar which was super cozy and quant and reminded me of a restaurant I loved in Switzerland. I had the cheese and charcuterie which was very nice and also a few bites of a friends burger which was exceptional as well! The bartender was super friendly and the service was great! My only regret is I didn't get to stay longer. I will definitely be back on my next trip to St. Helena!

All I'm going to say is this: order the hamburger with duck fat frites. Your life will never be the same. Add your favorite cocktail and you won't want to order it anywhere else other than G&G. The end.

  • Laura G.

Oh California, you come through again with a charming, laid-back, foodie haven. My work travels landed me in wine country and thanks to the Yelp, my colleagues decided on G&G. Everything we ordered in our gang of 5 was delish. Standouts included: fried olives, scallops, octopus, rock shrimp and watermelon salad, summer squash salad, sturgeon, pork chops. Ahhh, basically everything we ordered was a standout. The wine list - very good (hello, we are in the heart of Napa, so this is to be expected) and the desserts - delightful. If you find yourself in St. Helena for work or fun, go to G&G, ask for outdoor seating and enjoy a quintessential Napa valley restaurant.

2 Star Review based off their service. PROS: Excellent food. I had the California Sturgeon and it was perfect! Also, I had the grilled octopus and fried shrimp appetizers which were really nice too! They even have Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon, so I gave them an extra star. NEGATIVE: TERRIBLE Service. THOMAS who was our waiter, sucked donkey balls. Right from the get go, Thomas was a poor server. He ignored us the whole time and never spoke to us. The only time he actually spoke was when he wanted to take our order down. I asked if they had Pappy Van Winkle since it was on the menu and he said they were all sold out. Anyways, to cut it short, 30 minutes later, a new server Brandon came and told us that Thomas was taking off because his shift was over. Made TOTAL sense why Thomas didn't do a darn thing. Just because you aren't getting the tip because you are taking off early doesn't mean you don't do your job. At the end of the night, I politely complained to the restaurant manager about Thomas' service and he was very apologetic and professional. Someone like Thomas deserves to be working somewhere else with his work ethic. Funny thing was Brandon, our new server, who was excellent by the way, when asked which bourbons he would recommend, recommended the Van Winkle line up, and guess what....all of the bottles were in stock! Im sure if you get a good server, your experience here will be better than mine! Great food, don't let my 2 stars sway you from coming here, just a bad experience with their service

This is a really cool place to go if you are a local or happen to be in the area. The (dark) downstairs bar is a great place to go before/after your dinner reservation upstairs. The burger is hands down delicious. Some may say the food is too greasy. But I rather enjoy it. The seating area is comfortable and most tables are rather private so it can be romantic. Also a good place to take a group. Don't think I would bring kids here. Wonderful craft cocktails and a lovely wine selection. The service staff is always kind and attentive, even when it seems to be really busy, which is nice. Definitely a good place to go on a date, but maybe don't bring your mother in law here :)

  • Luke T.

The good: great atmosphere, kind and knowledgeable waitstaff, and excellent cocktails. The bad: inconsistency of food quality, limited menu, and slightly overpriced. Goose and Gander is a fun place to bring your friends and grab some cocktails and appetizers. Their cheese plate is solid, and their appetizer menu is varied and interesting. Worth mentioning is how good the cocktails are. Seriously, they're all good. Some of the best drinks in town, I think. If you're not a meat eater, the choices get limited, and what few options you have don't always taste the best. But still, as long as you know what you're looking for, this is a great place to come and spend some time. You never feel rushed, and the downstairs atmosphere is very nice. The service staff are all awesome. Ask for a server named Calderon.

We will definitely come back here next time we're in town. The food was amazing and their drinks were unique and spectacular. The atmosphere is really nice; great for a date night or group of friends. They have a great bar area downstairs, and are open later than anywhere else in town.

It's properly our bad luck. We just had dinner and every one's main dishes is salty, although the appetizers are pretty good. The reason i gave it 2 stars also because the waitress made too many mistakes when serving our table. I dont think i want to come back here. :(

You can never go wrong with the G&G burger with duck fat fries. 1 of 2 best burgers in Napa Valley. I've been there many times and everything I've tried has been superb. Every cocktail is top notch. Outstanding mixology. Great decor and atmosphere.

San Francisco does not have a monopoly on cool and chique eateries. Goose and gander has a very unique and varied menu along with delicious signature drinks. I don't like the bone marrow but it is just my taste. I'm sure its good. The staff does seem a bit rushed and disorganized among the busy crowd but they did their best. My cocktail came late because my friend ordered one and the waiter did not give me time to make a decision. Drink came later than anticipated and had little time to enjoy it before the starters came. We did have a extraordinary wait person at a restaurant in SF. She set the standard for waitpersons so she is hard to beat. She was tipped accordingly. If you have friends from the San Francisco who are hesitant to travel north, go the the Goose and Gander to set them straight!

The ambiance is wonderful with an ivy, jasmine and morning glory wall that gives the patio a magical air. The food was delicious!! Perfectly prepared sweetbreads, delicious smoked corn croquettes, and a well roasted bone marrow with an off the menu sherry pairing that elevated the experience! Nate, our server, was a consumate professional and created a warm, and intimate dining experience that perfectly complimented the food and drink. I wish more people in the hospitality industry were abe to facilitate an experience as he did. Enjoy!!

Great place in St. Helena! The outdoor seating area is super cute. You could come here for a full blown dinner or just come with some friends for a cocktail. We were fortunate enough to sit in the "private" room, which was a beautiful room. The mushroom soup was creamy and tasty, but was a little too sweet for me. The burger was juicy and awesome! The portions are bigger, so you can definitely share. Desserts weren't overly sweet, fresh, and interesting. The standout for me were the cocktails. They were interesting and beautifully presented!

Disclosure: This is extremely biased and focused on the burger. I am a burger fanatic. It is actually a problem - that I am not working hard at solving. There are worse problems in life. Anyways, heard through the grapevine that Goose & Gander has the best burger in the WORLD. Once I heard such a claim, I had to see for myself. This burger is not for the faint-hearted - it is rich and decadent. We did opt for bone marrow, which added lots more flavor, but I think it would be just as intense without the additional topping. I think next time I will have the burger without, but I was feeling crazy. The duck fat fries that accompany the burger are a perfect match and were some of the tastiest fries I have ever enjoyed. I enjoyed my whole experience at G&G and must say that I was impressed by the huge selection of (well-organized) cocktails and the array of small plates. There are all different seating areas to cater all types of meet ups. We sat downstairs which was part bar, part sultry old school restaurant feel with nice big leather seats. There is also a large more open dining area on the ground floor, and lots of patio seating. Oh, and we had some amazing crab leg appetizer, suggested by our server, that were messy but sooooo GOOD. Yum. I can't recommend this place enough. Go there. Right now. You won't regret it.

Great spot for lunch or dinner in Napa, their burger- OMG. They let you add bone marrow to the burgers too, it's death on a plate but in a die happy kind of way. Their soup and appetizers are really good too. I also got the quail which was delicious! Definitely worth checking out if you're in Napa.

Delicious! The G&G Burger is mouthwatering. I'm drooling just thinking about it. I also really enjoyed the bone marrow appetizer and the dungeness crab appetizer. Everything was phenomenal.

Sit downstairs if there's room available. It's cozy, warm and if it's cold they'll have the fireplace going. The bone marrow burger is the BEST burger I've ever had. Do not leave Napa without eating here. Best meal we had while there for a week.

Delicious and fresh, but SMALL portions. If you're hungry, bring your credit card and order a lot. Gnocchi was perfectly prepared, great combination of seasonal veggies and soft fresh ricotta pasta. But again, portion was really small.

Amazing! Came with friends and sat out on the relaxing patio, loved the leather couches out there. We basically mowed down on all apps after a long day of wine tasting. Server suggested the cucumber collins since we were wined out. This is the best drink I have ever head anywhere. EVER! The male server who's name escapes me was friendly and well educated on all items. Smoked Corn Croquettes are a must have and I could eat 3 orders myself. Crispy Olives w/ Roasted Pistachios are a unique and very tasty treat. Crispy Jalapeno Poppers were very popular and everyone was fighting for the last one so we ordered 2 more orders. Every item we ordered was 5 star, can't wait to return for dinner.

My husband and I went there this Sunday. Beautiful drive over from Santa Rosa. The restaurant is gorgeous! We were greeted courteously by the hostess and we asked if we could look downstairs at the bar. It was charming, so we decided to sit at the bar. There are fresh flowers all across the bar and it is very romantic. That is where the dream ended. Our bartender was a pretty girl with a surly disposition. She asked us what we wanted and didn't offer us either a wine list or cocktail menu. Hmmmm? Aren't they known for their drinks? Then we told her we wanted to dine there. Again, attitude. We then were given menus with no specials offered. Had to ask for them. I ordered a salad and asked for no meat and the special soup. My salad came and was covered with pancetta. When I flagged down another server, he argued with me that it was something else. No, then he agreed that it was meat. Shortly thereafter, the surly bartender plopped down my salad with no meat. And no apology. When my soup came, it was way too sweet. The mushroom flavor was disguised by a strong brandy flavor. So, I had two bites. When the bartender came to clear, she said, "Oh, you didn't like the soup?" I told her no, that I didn't. She didn't say a word. It also then appeared on our check. It was an unfortunate dining experience. The beautiful restaurant was ruined by the service. Too bad as it seemed like it was going to be a good place to take guests.

We visit Napa 2-3x/yrly (Sonoma Cty gets 4-6 visits/yr from us; Monterey 2x/yr). We stay for several days and eat out lunch and dinner. G&G has a nice outdoor patio, and that's where it stops. The octopus was tasteless. Corn croquettes were arancini w/corn and a boring red pepper dip; okay but pedestrian. Charcuterie plate was good, nothing exceptional or unusual but satisfying. Mushroom bisque was the same--good, nothing remarkable. I ordered the sturgeon, which came in a broth with cherry tomatoes, shallots, and Castelvetrano olives which are my favorites. But the fish was heavily dusted with plain loose bread crumbs, which I thought was strange. The moment I took the first bite, nose and tongue told me the fish wasn't fresh. The broth was tasty with good ingredients, but it had no complexity. It was just a bunch of stuff heated up briefly together. We called the waiter over and I had the dish returned to the kitchen. For a quick meal, I opted for the starter of braised meatballs, which come in a tomato sauce with goat cheese. The waitstaff who delivered the dish declared it was feta, which it was not. This is a substantial starter, with three good-sized meatballs. Meatballs are rolled in breadcrumbs, which gave them an odd texture as the mix was already quite loose from using a fair amount of filler (probably more breadcrumbs). But it was delivered quickly and easy to eat, which was what I needed at that point, my DH already having finished eating. Overall: B-minus. If you want CA food in big portions, go down the street to Market Restaurant on Main St./St. Helena, which uses better quality ingredients, executes their dishes with more skill and care, and has better service. You'll miss G&G's patio, but you will have eaten so much better. If you want really good food instead big portions, go elsewhere: Archetype, Solbar, Auberge, Etoile. Just don't come here, unless you just want a drink on the patio.

Fun vibe. We ended up eating downstairs on a week night and the crowd was good, waiter was casual. Had a pretty solid mixed drink, Vodka cucumber Collins, lots of fruit & cucs inside the drink which I probably should've eaten in retrospect. They have a beer selection and some decent ones on tap, which was pretty hard to find in Napa, so that was also refreshing. FOOD: We had the mushroom soup which was creamy, rich and super flavorful. High recommendation. I had the octopus salad, which was very enjoyable. Wife had the burger which was well-cooked. Smokey flavor, which sounded good, but wifey doesn't like smoke. I give this place a solid recommendation if you're in town.

We came in for lunch and ordered the burgers that were recommended. I was impressed with the restaurant and the staff. I love that it is a classier and more dressed up place. I get kinda tired of the laid back casualness of everything here in CA. The FRIES!!! The fries are awesome! The waiter was great. Our glass never saw empty. The burgers were different. I'm not sure what it was...it even smelled different. They were very juicy and if it weren't for what ever it is that made it taste different, it would have been really great. I just couldn't get over it....obviously! I personally would not order that again, but I know of some people that said that was the best burger they have EVER eaten.

Decadent burger with duck fat fries, and charcuterie plate A charming hostess at an earlier wine tasting recommended Goose and Gander for the burger with marrow. We are confirmed carnivores, so we headed to St Helena straight away. We ate outside on a beautiful summer afternoon. As promised, the grass-fed burger, frites, and the charcuterie plate that we discovered were all delicious. A glass of local rose sealed the deal. Our server was great: personable, knowledgeable, and attentive in just the right proportion.

Great Atmosphere! we sat next to the fireplace and it was so cozy! I hear they have great cocktails, but we went on a Monday night and the industry special was buffalo trace bourbon with a beer back for something like $6! A friend ordered the burger with marrow and it was yummy!

I had heard good things about Goose and Gander and really wanted to try it, so what better opportunity than a post drinking Napa lunch :) I made a reservation for 1:45pm, so when we were delayed leaving wine tasting and by traffic, I called Goose and Gander at 1:40 and told them we would be there at about 2:05 and profusely apologized. I was told not to worry and that our table would be available when we got there. So I was a little dismayed that when we arrived at 2:05, we were told there were no tables available but we could wait at the bar downstairs. Now, normally I wouldn't have cared about the table situation, even though it was a gorgeous day and we were stuck in the basement, because there was plenty of bar seating and we ordered at the bar as we were starving. We got gorgonzola stuffed dates, which came out very quickly and were delicious but there were only four of them... A bit pricey for four little dates if you ask me. Now, here's where we went downhill. We waited and waited for our burgers and were assured they were on their way. However, after waiting for over 50 minutes, we finally asked a different bartender, and it turns out, somehow, our orders got mixed up and were never put in. The staff was very apologetic and brought us complimentary corn croquettes and fried olives and pistachios, which were appreciated, but it just felt weird that our order was somehow partially lost. The croquettes were fine (really good and spicy sauce) and the olives / pistachios were different and something I would order again. The burger itself was actually delicious, though I did order it with marrow, which if there was any, it had no taste. And neither my friend nor I actually tasted any of the duck fat on our fries. Overall a very uneven experience. I do want to come back and give the place another shot, but overall, too many things seemed to fall through the cracks yesterday.

The one star doesn't reflect every experience I have had, and it doesn't reflect the entire experience either, just one aspect of the dining in particular. I came here to celebrate my birthday and I ordered the burger. They usually ask me how I like it cooked, but this time they didn't ask, and so of course I forgot as well. My burger came and it was completely pink on the inside. I don't usually like it when there's a lot of pink. I contemplated whether I should send it back, but having been a waitress before, I did not want to be one of those annoying customers. I ate the burger. In the middle of the night I got the worst stomach ache and was up all night dealing with... you know what. Additionally, since we were there for my birthday, the waiter surprised me and brought some ice cream trio thing to us for dessert. He told us it was a little birthday treat. We got the bill and saw that he charged us for the dessert. Even though he took it off the bill after we told him we never ordered it, I was still annoyed that he even pulled something like that because when we told him we didn't even order it, he wasn't even very apologetic, he just said "Oh, you're right. I will fix it." The main lesson I learned is that if I'm going to be paying $18 for a burger, I will not care whether I am annoying or not.

Been to Goose and Gander a couple times and have always had a positive experience. The food is very well made. The roasted bone marrow is a favorite! Fish is well cooked and the salads are very well put together. The burgers are the most talked about, I think. Last time I went here, the waitress gave us a free sample of a special mushroom appetizer that they were serving that night, which was delicious! They have a wide selection of specialty cocktails and wines available. The staff is very knowledgeable about their drinks as well and knows which are the best to get "virgin" if you don't want alcohol. The restaurant itself has a very nice atmosphere. Quiet dining, romantic lighting, and, personally, I enjoy watching the chefs cook in the somewhat open kitchen. Reservations are usually the way to go when coming here, but I have gone a couple times and gotten a seat fairly quickly. Overall, great food and great atmosphere. Definitely a place worth going to!

I can't wait to go back to G&G. Went for lunch. Literally, had THE best burger of my 55 years. I can still smell the grilling. Hardy brioche bun was almost sourdough like. Great service. Great woodsy interior. Can't wait to go back for dinner, check out the intimate bar area on the bottom floor and write an even better review.

A wonderful restaurant and bar located in St Helena, Napa valley. 4 of us had lunch there today and we all raved about the food and service. Very tasty Octopus salad, perfectly produced Tomato soup and the Citrus mousse with fresh Grapefruit and white chocolate & ginger shortbread. Wow! The service was equally 5 star. A truly memorable experience.

Loved the lounge downstairs, sitting at the bar watching the bartenders proficiently execute their craft. The presentation of their drinks are as important as the food presentation which is nice to see. The spicy prawns and the pork chop were both fantastic. We had the pleasure of sitting with Rafael who manages the bar and was very hospitable. For eating or just cocktails this is a great place to relax in Napa Valley.

Gorgeous restaurant. Terrific ambiance! I found the food excellent but small portions and pricey! No bread no butter. Dinner for three $170 with tip and I did not drink. When dinner was over I was still hungry. Very nice restaurant ...

I was thoroughly impressed by this restaurant. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure my meal was made with no dairy ingredients. The crispy olives and roasted pistachios are an absolute MUST. My steak was cooked to perfection, exactly the way I asked for it. The ambiance of the restaurant is very warm and inviting without feeling pretentious. The cocktails were perfectly mixed and my husband loved the hand-carved ice cubes in his whiskey blends. At the end of our meal, the waitress even made a special effort to find me a dairy-free dessert option. The passion fruit sorbet she brought out was delicious! I can enthusiastically give this restaurant the highest rating of 5 stars. I would add an extra star if I could for the superb service!

There is definitely something to be said about the G&G burger with bone marrow and duck fat fries. The meal was fantastic and the service was top notch. Our waiter was always there to explain anything that we wanted and my guests and me really appreciated that. The quickness of the food to get to our table was on point which is always awesome when you're hungry. The bad news with this place was that it took awhile for us to get seated because when we entered there wasn't a host/hostess in sight. That's really disappointing considering the quality and stature of this restaurant. The reason I went was because a friend told me that this place had the best burger in the Napa Valley and I must say, he was right. Was it worth 21 bucks though? Not a chance. On a good day Shake Shack's burger with that fried mushroom could trump this burger any day. Still pretty tasty and definitely worth a try.

First, GREAT cocktails. And for a non-drinker like myself, I think that's a really good compliment! I had a Cucumber Collins - light, fresh, fruity, refreshing, with thinly sliced cucumbers and topped with huckleberries - and a Winter Gander (?) - warm, spiced with tangerine, orange peel, and five-spice. Second, our service was great! Even though we had to wait 1 hr for our table (didn't make reservations), our drinks arrived quickly, and time passed as we made ourselves comfortable on leather couches (under space heaters!) on the spacious wooden terrace outside- open on the sides to the drizzling weather but roofed, and had ourselves some nice conversation alongside our cocktails. At our dinner table, the waitstaff was friendly, knowledgable, and had excellent recommendations. And THEN there was the incredible food. Our table started off with... Seared Day boat Scallops and Roasted Bone Marrow: The scallops were tender, but had crispy exterior, and they sat on a bed of sauteed wild mushrooms and onions, which was all set on a soft, fluffy polenta cake. On each scallop was a garnish of bacon possibly drizzled with a bit of truffle oil, and the whole thing was placed in a puddle of (i believe) mushroom cream. We polished THAT off quickly! The marrow was.. how else can i say this.. incredibly rich. Imagine butter, but beef- flavored. That's bone marrow. the bone itself had a lovely caramelized color, and and came with some slices of toasted, buttered bread (just in case the marrow wasn't rich enough). The marrow itself was super rich, creamy, and deep. The side of fennel, whole-leaf parsley, and caper salad was an excellent way to cut the richness of the dish. Unfortunately, (2 things) I wish there was a little more mustard with the marrow - i didn't get to try it. And, i didn't realize that the little white dish was of fleur de sel! Would definitely have sprinkled some onto the marrow! We followed our appetizers with different suggested entrees. Between the 4 of use, we had the Whole milk Ricotta Gnocchi with a side of sauteed spinach, the Seared Samlon, the G&G Burger (Rare), and the Flat Iron Steak (Rare) with a side of duck fat fries. I can only vouch for 3/4 of these dishes - didn't try the burger, although we heard many great things about it! Let me start with the... Seared Salmon: Perfectly seared salmon (crisply exterior, tender, not undercooked, flaky) on top of a bed of seasonal vegetables - in this case, a kind of cabbage slaw i think. The salmon was well seasoned, and very flavorful - not fishy at all! Flat Iron steak w/ a side of duck fat fries: The BF got this one, and as much as i hesitate to say... oh what am I saying. We're both kind of food snobs, and the last the the BF had steak at a restaurant, he asked for it to be medium rare/rare, and they gave it to him well done - travesty, i know. At least in his experience, restaurants rarely serve steak at the level of doneness he's looking for. But....! Let me tell you. When you tell G & G to give you a RARE flat iron steak, it is a RARE flat iron steak. Seared and seasoned to perfection to the outside, the interior of the steak was just a hair past black&blue - pretty much what a rare steak is! Of the bite (or two?) that i had, the steak was bursting with meaty, robust flavor, and the sauce it sat in - some kind of Chimichurri Sauce (?) paired very well with it! While I loved how everything came together, there's only one thing I wish there was less of - (i know i might get some grief for this) bacon flavor. I think the steak was seared in bacon fat, and I also think that the chimichurri had quite a bit of bacon fat emulsified into it as well. While Bacon is just fine, i feel that a steak probably shouldn't be so heavily perfumed with it. Besides that, one of the finer steaks i've had a restaurant. The duck fat fries were tasty (a tad over salted), but held their crisp very well over the course of dinner. Nothing fancy about these fries - just really good, solid fries! Whole Milk Ricotta Gnocchi: Incredibly soft milky gnocchi pillows dressed in two sauces - I think one was sort of cream sauce, and the other was a Butter nut squash purree. The dish also came with sauteed black trumpet mushrooms and cipollini onions, and was topped with fried sage, & shaved reggiano. The Gnocchi itself was soft and tender, and believe it or not, had a wonderful milky taste to it. My side of spinach was surprisingly well done - I think i'm used to having spinach served mushy at restaurants, but this sauteed spinach was still al-dente! After I had finished the gnocchi (Wasn't actually a ton of it on the plate), I did as our server suggested - mixed the spinach into the leftover sauce on the gnocchi plate. .. Ever had creamed spinach? Ever had creamed spinach with butternut squash puree flavoring each bite with a subtly sweet flavor? That's what it was kind of like. Definitely a dish to try! 10/10! Just.. go already!

Loved it! My friend and I just hung out at the bar, enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and shared a few items. The bar is very cute, a little bit speakeasy-ish yet classy at the same time. Standouts: crispy olives, the melon/saffron salad and the scallops. Will definitely be back!

We had dinner here with a party of 8. They put us in a semi-private room to accommodate us, which was great. Overall everyone was super nice and our server was great. I got the Scarlet Gander cocktail, which I enjoyed, though it would have been even better if it was a bit more ginger-y/spicy over being sweet. Still, I liked it. We ordered the scallops as an appetizer, which were really good. I got the arugula and sour cherry salad, which I really enjoyed. Then I had the burger. The burger was good, but for me, there was too much char on the meet and the bun was too big/too much bread. I did enjoy it though and it came out medium rare as I requested. The duck fat fries were crispy and delicious. The desserts we ordered were really delicious as well. I needed refill on my water for about 10 minutes before I got it. And despite putting it on the reservation when I called, I had to discreetly remind our server that it was the birthday of someone in our group. It was a great dinner though and overall a great spot. Definitely would recommend it to others.

What a wonderful outdoor seating area complete with pond , fountain and koi. Service was good and the menu choices excellent. Try the crispy olives as an appetizer. The salads are wonderful, burgers tasty and a creative set of cocktail choices. Of course being in St Helena doesn't hurt as it gives you a great place to walk after lunch.

This was a great find recommended by a local. It is a very nice place in a small comfortable downstairs pub environment. The four of us all had the burger and we all agreed it was the best burger we had ever had. EVER! The duck grease french fries were very good, the olive and pistachio appetizer was inventive and delicious. The deserts were a disappointment. The carrot cake was dry and the salted carmel chocolate was very good. However, the portions were embarrassingly small for the price.

The perfect way to end an incredible day of wine tastings in Napa Valley. The ambiance was warm, the food was excellent and the service was top notch. In short, it was an exemplary dining experience. Most impressive was the sense of pride the staff exuded in delivering the experience. Only regret was not trying any of their cocktails as we stuck to wine. I recommend the Corn Croquettes, the Pork entree and the Carrot Cake.

Great place, We were in Napa over Valentine's week-end and decided to see our options on Open Table.....and this place had an opening at 8 on a Saturday night. Great place...... We enjoyed the wonderful cocktails; while we waited for dinner we shared the warm olives and pistachios appetizer. I had salmon for dinner - they really did a great job on the salmon - and served with vegetables - different textures. So yummy. The person I was with had the flat iron steak and loved it..... We shared dessert and an afternoon drink..... We were seated in their main dining room......and yes, this place does amazing cocktails. The bar area was full.....and you could smell the strong smells of alchoholic drinks coming up the stairs.....(can you get fuzzy just smelling?) Service was friendly and attentive even though it was an extremely busy Saturday night. Definitely will put this restaurant on my list to return to. So many good things served frmo the kitchen. We were close enough to watch the kitchen staff prepare....and kept saying "that sure looks good too." We also liked it that they had oferrings from $$ to $$$ so you could have a nice night out without the sometimes high prices of Napa valley.

You can't find better cocktails or selections of spirits locally, which is sad because the service will be your deciding factor if you want to stay for more than one round of drinks. The bartenders are nice and more than knowledgeable, but the draw of this cozy bar inspires many to come without the staff to cater to their needs.

The food was good; however, the service was terrible! Took forever for the food to come out, and they weren't even busy! The other tables around us received their food before we did, and we ordered before those tables had even been seated! It also took forever to have our bill settled. At least the host, Marcus, was friendly.

Finding a place that serves food late is pretty much impossible and we stumbled upon G&G as a suggestion from another bar. The downstairs bar is so charming like an old English Tavern. The burger is on the top of my list as the best burger ever. The Cucumber Collins is also great. Not too sweet. Love this place I had to go back for another burger.

I am a long time patron of Martini House and when it closed, I mourned its passing! This was our first trip to eat at the restaurant that took its place. Service was exceptional with a number of accomodations made. First, we had 2 reservations for 4 each and they graciously combined our parties at a private table and gave us the most amazing server that we could ask for (I think her name was Cynthia but EVERYBODY knew who she was). Second, we brought all of our own wine except for a bottle of sparkling wine which we ordered at the beginning of the meal. There was no complaint or lessening of service...although we did have some good wines! Third, Cynthia was outstanding. She managed to keep us all straight as we were ordering various courses. We even had a Vegan in our party and she worked hard to ensure that a special dish was created to meet specifications. We started with a charcuterie and cheese plate as well as a selection of appetizers - the jalapeno poppers were especially popular. The menu is small but it appeared there was something for everyone (with the exception of the Vegan meal). The hamburger was panned by one diner while the other pronounced it "one of the best she'd tasted". I had the swordfish which was a nice sized piece of fish with artichokes and mushrooms. The flat iron steak was pronounced excellent. We also ordered a large number of sides including the peas, the mushrooms, fries, polenta. All were good and my personal favorite was the mushrooms which were cooked just right. One more item: we used to love to sit in the bar area at Martini House. We were originally going to sit there when we made our reservation however the addition of other guests made that difficult. That said, I heard that sitting in the bar area is not as pleasant/homey as it used to be so you might want to avoid it.

I hate it when places have a "Caesar salad with romaine lettuce" and don't even bother cutting up the romaine lettuce. Do humans normally eat lettuce by the stalk? No. It would take the kitchen 2 seconds to cut it up. And I ordered a salad with parmesan dressing, not parmesan dressing with some salad in it. My bf's Australia Walu definitely made up for the 1 star salad though. It was absolutely delicious, so definitely recommended. Drinks were solid - scotch served with a single ice ball Large outdoor patio during a nice day!

I Tried starters and a salad. My wife had the same. Service Was slow. Ceviche was very gook but potato chips was a disappointment. Tortilla chips or even better sweet potato chips. But the potato chips was a let down. The clams were very small and greasy. I expected better. It was spicy but to greasy., The hot wings were expensive for a starter I expected so meaty chicken wings. Was I surprised to see no wing drum sticks, only the meatless chicken wing..! I really think they need to upgrade there chips with ceviche and add drumet's to wings.

This review is based on dining back in July 2014. We were planning on having our private event here though the logistics didn't work out and we had to give up the venue, we were very impressed with their food and service. First, their food. We tasted all the popular items on the menu and there weren't much that we didn't like. Bites (HDs, but generous portions) - we had Crispy Olives w/ Roasted Pistachios and Roasted Dates w/ Gorgonzola. Both were good but roasted dates is a must have!! Olives w/ pistachios were delicious as well but my hands got oily trying to crack the nuts and didn't end up finishing the pot. It was a great pair for the wine though. Appetizer - Grilled Spanish Octopus, Salad of Shaved Fennel and Rainbow Carrots, and Rustic Arugula and Aprium Salad. All good, but I have to give it to the argula salad. Entrees - Pan Roasted Chicken Breast, Wild King Salmon and Grilled Flat Iron Steak, and all were moderately okay. At the time, I think our favorite was the chicken breast. Cocktails, yummy and good-looking. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of all the cocktails and his recommendation was perfect for the mood I was in. Service - staff very knowledgeable, waiters from different tables stepped up to help us when we were looking for ours. Overall, they made the dining experience very entertaining. Lastly, the venue - they have a great outdoor seating with a small patio and tiny fountain(?)/water well, that could turn into a private space. There's also a bar area downstairs that leads to the outdoor patio. It's too bad that we didn't get to have our event here but I would definitely return for different dining occasions.

I remember having good drinks here but tonight the two bartenders were so rude that I will definitely not be coming back. Just so unfriendly I won't be coming back

Duck, duck, Goose & Gander! I used to haunt this place back when it was Martini House. Oh, how I loved the food and atmosphere of that old place. But then, as things go, Martini house closed its doors and the property remained inactive for some time. Ah, enter Goose & Gander...the Martini House reborn! The Napa crew and I were thirsty and had an hour to kill before making our way to the CIA at Greystone. When we arrived, Goose & Gander was humming like ten jet engines! There were people everywhere and yet we found a table down stairs with our names on it. The bar was awesome! Many places in the Napa Valley do not carry premium alcohol...a curious thing since wineries are the main attraction. I asked my waiter "Got any Johnny Walker Blue label?" He responded: "Oh, yeah!" While I nearly choked on the price ($50.00 for a glass was over the top for me) this bar was decked out with the good stuff (I landed on vodka and was not disappointed)! We were offered a menu but alas, by the time we finished our drinks it was time to go. I'll be back for certain, if for nothing more than to see if the food lives up to booze!

Love love love this place. Drinks are amazing...like really amazing. My favorite is the hora de ora, but you really can't go wrong with any of their drinks. And burger...do the burger! They had me at duck fat fries and bone marrow on the burger. My mouth is watering....so delicious

I have to say I was very disappointed with the service tonight. I went there with a large group for a Birthday dinner. The birthday boy made reservations and was told it might have to be family style since we were going to have a large party. At that time, there was mention as to what the price would be. When we sat down for dinner, Jalapeño poppers arrived when no one had made an order yet. We asked our waiter about it and he said that he had taken the liberty to order dinner for us. He also did not mention how much the menu would be. As the evening went on, the service was very slow. Several of us had ordered beverages that did not show up for 20-30 minutes. It took at least that long to get a straw. The food was pretty good, but for a family style meal, it was a fairly small amount of food. When we received the bill, it was a bit of a shock to see that the prix fixe meal was $60/person. If this information was given to us in the very beginning, I know some of the guests in our party would have wished the Birthday boy a very Happy Birthday and left. A couple of us brought this to the attention of the manager who tried to explain the situation, but I have a feeling he was only trying to cover his ass. The birthday boy never spoke to the manager (who was male), he only ever spoke to a female. The manager also said his waiter told him he advised us at the beginning of he meal that it was family style and what the price was. Again, if they really had told us, half of the guests would have left. Overall a big disappointment considering I've been wanting to go to Goose & Gander for over a year.

Awesome bar downstairs -- great atmosphere for conversation, and huge menu of cocktails ranging from simple classics to deliciously inventive surprises. Bartenders know their stuff and take the time to craft every drink with care.

Been holding off on my comments for this place. I still have my withdrawal, from what was once in this location. Putting that aside, our visit was very enjoyable. I know, we will be back and give it another round.

Yum yum! I've been waiting to come here for some time now and I have to say I was not disappointed in the least! First I started with the Pimm's cup cocktail, then moved on to sharing 2 appetizers: the scallops, which were amazing add the third one, and the prawns which were equally amazing. I then split the g & g burger simply decadent. This is my new favorite place in Napa Valley!!

They have a hamburger and duck fat fries that is life changing! It was the best burger I EVER EVER had! The service was good, the place was very cute - love the bar downstairs looks like an old Boston Pub! Awesome! A must go and must see! The people who gave bad reviews are haters! lol!

I've eaten here 3 or 4 times, and each time it's just been okay, which is such a shame because it's so close to our home here and the prior tenant, The Martini House served, killer food (finer dining upstairs and more casual food downstairs in the bar). On our first visit I ordered the duck wings, which they thankfully took off the menu as they were these scrawny, bony things with very little meat or flavor. For my entree I had a burger, which was overcooked and not nearly as good at the former Martini House burger (which is the current burger at Todd Humphrey's Kitchen Door in the Oxbow Market in Napa). On another visit I had the Pork belly wedge salad -- a mistake ... the pork was unappetizingly fatty and chewy (I have had pork belly crisped up lardon-style; it's possible to do if rendered properly). On another visit I don't recall what I had for my entree, but we started with the jalapeno poppers ... outstanding ... simply the best poppers I've ever had. Went back a couple of nights ago for dinner to learn that they had taken their very best item (in my opinion) off the lunch, dinner and bar menu ... the poppers ... now they have grilled padron peppers (boring) and apparently the poppers are now only available on the "late night" menu ... we left after having a drink (somewhat dirty martini made with too much vermouth) and ate elsewhere since the primary reason we went to Goose & Gander that night was for the poppers and they won't make them at dinner time even though they're on the late night menu ... In a town with several outstanding restaurants, they're going to need to up their game ... it'll be interesting to see how they do over the winter months ... As far as decor, I don't care for it ... it's appears to be cheaply done (seemingly plastic duck decoys ... it's not that expensive to buy some really cool wooden ones (antique or new)) ... and it's dark. Service has been fine for the most part ... we had to wait quite a while for our entrees the first visit we made, but since then it's been fairly attentive.

I love this place. We came here on a fluke one gorgeous September evening and boy are we glad we did. We lucked up and found seating in the downstairs bar area. This place is known by the locals and is sort of a hidden gem. It looks like an old house turned restaurant (super cozy and inviting) and hands down the best bar menu I've experienced. My husband ordered the burger with bone marrow and it was DELICIOUS!!!!! I went the safe route and ordered the chicken which was equally delicious. You must try the fried olives (if you like that kind of stuff) they are awesome!!

my new favorite restaurant in st. helena! the venue has a cool outdoor seating area and you have your choice of a more pub-like atmosphere downstairs or slightly more upscale dining upstairs. the octopus salad was amazing. if you have it, make sure to take bites with a little of everything on the dish for the full flavor experience :). we also had the g&g burger. it's first gourmet burger i've had that truly deserves to be called gourmet. they're not kidding, this thing is really juicy, but the bun holds it all in just right. can wait to come back and try all the other things on the menu!

Came for lunch. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. Enjoyed that very much. 1. Bali Spice Old Fashioned Cocktail - 4 stars - delicious 2. Rosemary Pear Shrub Cocktail - 3 stars - nice but I felt the Bali had better balance. This says something since I normally am not a Bourbon drinker 3. Mixed Spring Green Salad - 3 stars - fresh but light on flavor 4. Scottish Salmon - 3 stars - salmon was perfectly prepared but they went a little heavy on the dill Creme Fraiche which overpowered the lovely fish and English Spring Peas. 6. Grilled Flat Iron Steak - 3.5 stars - enjoyable dish but not memorable 7. Duck Fat Fries - 2 stars - good and crispy as fries should be but we couldn't tell it was cocked in duck fat. Tasted just like regular fries cooked in vegetable oil 8. Desserts were yummy If we find ourselves in St. Helena this would not be a first pick but if friends wanted to eat here, we would not object.

Came here on a Thursday night with a couple of friends and we were seated pretty quickly. Most of us had ordered the G&G burger. I ordered the burger with no bone marrow and shared it with a friend. After a few bites, I discovered a black hair of about 10 inches intertwined into the patty. We told the waiter and they were pretty apologetic as they comped the burger and gave us some ice cream on the house. However, as it was a $20 burger, I think they should've accommodated just a little more. It's safe to say that I am traumatized from all burgers and will not be returning to Goose and Gander.

Have given this place a lot of chances to get on my good side. The menu is interesting, the staff is attentive, the garden and interiors are lovely. But there's something missing. The dishes almost hit the mark, but not quite. It's a good place to have a cocktail and a few apps. The duck fat fries are superb. Kind of a younger crowd. Sunday nights they have prime rib and Yorkshire pudding. Mixed bag overall.

AMAZING! Food was fantastic, service was impeccable. I can't believe I had to order only one thing for lunch. The patio is adorable and with all the umbrellas it's comfortable on a hot day. Even the music playing in the background is loud enough to hear yet low enough to have a conversation and it was actually good music. Do yourself a favor and order the crispy olives and ask for Shelly for a server. I can't wait to come back.

Wonderful! We had a great dining experience on the outdoor patio. It was like eating on our backyard, but with better food and better service (and we make good food at home)! We would definitely come back and wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone else. Food and service were top notch.

We had heard wonderful things about Goose & Gander, so we booked the restaurant for my birthday dinner this weekend. The food met our expectations: really wonderful flavors, beautiful presentations, fresh ingredients. We sat out in the garden with its beautiful lights and trees, which make for a romantic ambiance. We started with the chicken wings, which were crisp and served with a delicious chili sauce and avocado puree. We also had the mushroom soup, which sadly was served room temperature. If there was a microwave next to our table, I would have popped the soup in there for reheating. My husband had the guinea hen special and I had the t-bone pork chop. Both were generous portions of meat served on beds of fresh veggies, and we left stuffed. The service, unfortunately, was lackluster, hence the 3-star review. Our server faltered at nearly every step of the meal. When we were ready to order our full meal, he insisted on only placing the order for our appetizer, delaying the rest of our meal. When our soup came, we didn't have spoons, but he went and tended to another table before bringing us spoons. No wonder the soup was cold! We ordered wine, which our server clearly forgot about because he asked if we wanted another round of cocktails just a couple of minutes after we ordered the wine. When he remembered that we had ordered wine he told us it would be right out -- right after he took orders from a party of 12 at the next table over. The wine finally came out towards the end of our second course. When the bill arrived, it was missing the wine, so we had to ask for that to be corrected. Sloppy, disappointing service makes me hesitant to return.

Great outdoor dinner on a gorgeous summer night! We came here for a bachelorette weekend dinner and I had an amazing AMAZING smoked trout salad that I can't stop thinking about. It was basically chunks of perfectly smoked trout sprinkled over lightly dressed snow peas, snap peas and radish. So simple and so delicious! The rest of the table shared some tender octopus salad, addictive padron peppers and a savory scallop and corn dish. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience with a very understanding waitress (we had a large party, brought 2 bottles of wine and had a couple arguments as to who was paying). I think the only disappointment were the corn fritters I ordered, which were a bit lacking in the corn department. Other than that, two thumbs up! I'll definitely be back.

In the former Martini House location, G&G had some big shoes to fill...but it seems to us they are doing a pretty good job. The service is not quite as polished (maybe also as Ella said a little less pretentious) and the restaurant slightly more casual. We tried a number of things since the menu is conducive to ordering either more small plates style or with a traditional sized entree, and all dishes were tasty. The menu does change seasonally and isn't exactly what is currently posted on their website. As my main entree I had a yummy salmon on a bed of beans and other goodies, plus Mr. M and I split a not so memorable salad (fig?) and a delightful pair of polenta cakes all cozy in their own little cast iron box that kept them warm until we were ready for them. He enjoyed prawns and scallops. He really liked his house made cocktail, though I thought my mojito could have used quite a bit more mint. We sat outside on a beautiful evening. Can't go wrong with that.

Stopped by in Napa for a birthday brunch with 8 other people this Saturday and the service and food compelled me to write a review. Needless to say, everything was stellar. I couldn't stop talking about the burger and the pork chop to my friends and family. Reservations were at 1pm and we arrived 10 minutes early. Our party of 9 were seated promptly in the outdoor dining area. The server was pleasant, attentive, and honest about portion size. Two girls and I shared the arugula salad, the G&G burger (with marrow melted on top), and the porkchop and we were stuffed. The whole table shared jalapeno peppers and beef carpaccio, which were both delicious. We skipped on dessert because we needed to make it to another winery. Price wise, very reasonable. The burger with marrow and fries is $21, which I felt is justifiable with the size and portion of fries. We also ordered a bottle of their wine and waived the corkage fee for our own bottle. Awesome. Definitely going to be coming back here!

Goose and Gander is a little classy hole in the wall. Tucked behind a strip mall it's kind of an unexpected surprise. The outside patio area is perfect for late night drinks and snacking, but if you want more of a pub/old school cabin feel head to the downstairs bar and order a drink there! Even though the feel of good and gander is great it is a bit pricey for certain items. Their drinks, while good, are over priced for the amount of alcohol you get. Like any restaurant though you just have to know what to order. I would go for their burger and Gorgonzola stuffed dates. The duck fries, to my taste, just tasted like fries with no real extra flavor. Overall though, worth checking out of you are in St.Helena.

What a great place in St. Helena! We started out with two cucumber Collins (phenomenal) and we also brought a beautiful bottle of wine with us. For apps, we had the scallops and the octopus and both were sensational. Then we had the steak and the pork loin. I can't tell you which one was better because they were prepared in such a simple, yet delicious way. My friend and I also shared three of the desserts, and again, everything was amazing. Our server was so kind and funny, and we were able to sit outside on the cool patio. I highly recommend this restaurant!

this review is primarily for their amazingly delicious cocktails. Came here before La Condesa one night to pre load. The Pimm's Cup with Terroir Gin....stellar! I love Terroir, and they really knew how to use it. The Mellivora capensis (Honey Badger) was also divine. I don't remember what was in it. I know there was some bourbon, but it was a very refined and complex drink. We had shishito peppers too. They were great, but then it is hard to screw up shishitos. I would come back for food next time, and definitely for more cocktails. That Scott Beaty sure knows his way around the booze.

The food here is delicious! Under the restaurant is a cute little bar. The drinks aren't very strong, but if you have a sweeter pallet they are perfect! I had the scarlet gander and it was very refreshing. The outdoor seating is beautiful as well. A great place to head after a day of wine tasting

This appears to be where locals hang out after service. We walked in to a nearly deserted restaurant on a weekday for a 9pm reservation, and it was packed forty minutes later with folks talking about the wine industry. There is much waterfowl-related decoration downstairs in the bar area. They have an excellent, excellent cocktail program ... the talented hand of Scott Beattie is definitely in evidence. The Scarlet Gander is maybe a little unbalanced and overly complex, but if you skip the "featured cocktails" and plow further into the actual cocktail list, there is definitely something for everyone. The charcuterie plate was varied and satisfying, and also from a local producer. Smoked Corn Croquettes came in a generous portion, yet were light enough to finish quickly. Flavors of smoke and corn came through well. A red trout and garden pea salad strewn with almonds was fresh and interesting, with some of the nicest tasting peas I've had recently. The octopus was well-prepared and nicely textured, served on a bed of lentils. We finished with the G&G Burger. Rare. With marrow on top for an additional $8. It was pretty amazing, and the fries it came with were not half bad - though it's definitely enough to share. Service here was friendly, if not always fast. Combined with the excellent food and the world-class drink program, it's a definite winner.

Spotty service and one barely warm entree equals 3 out of 5 stars. Plus side: * G&G was very accomodating of the fact that we were stuck in Sunday traffic. With a phone call we re-established our ETA from 1 to 1:30 and they had no issues holding our table. *Corey, our server, opened our wine right away, which we greatly appreciated. *My sturgeon main course was moist, flavorful and lovely. Others enjoyed their plates as well. *Patio seating is wide-spaced and ample with a nice little garden area. Restaurant is not on the main road so traffic noise is reduced. *Our corkage fee was waived--possibly due to an entree being sent back? Minus side: *Our friends were running a tad bit late so our server basically left us alone during that time. We were hungry and would have liked to order some starters. *The wine, on ice, was placed a good distance away from the table, but luckily one in our party had a good reach, so we weren't dependent on Corey for repours. We would have been waiting a long time. *Huzby had to send back his salmon entree which was barely warm. He sat and watched while the 3 of us enjoyed our main courses. That's always fun. *Menu selection was somewhat limited compared to other local restaurants. *Outdoor furnishings were odd. Leather chairs and wood tables? Just didn't really jive with the surroundings. *Over-airconditioned inside. If for some strange reason (photophobia?) you'd wanted to dine inside, you needed to bring your parka. Summary: We had a lackluster first visit to Goose and Gander punctuated with inattentive service and a not very warm entree that was sent back. Honestly, it's almost a M'eh instead of an A-OK. I noticed other reviewers have raved about the cocktails. Uhm, you've gotta have more than cocktails if you're a full service restaurant. We probably should give this place a second chance but with so many really great places right near by, I can't imagine why we would.

Ok. Eating here made me seriously doubt all the other 5 stars I've given to other restaurants. I wish I could give it a bonus star. This is by far the best meal I have had in my life, and I've been blessed with experiencing many restaurants all around the country and outside of it. The old fashioned, lion's tail, and cucumber Collins were all fantastic. Just perfect. The cucumber Collins was amazingly refreshing and the other two had just the perfect portions of ingredients. For appetizers, we ordered crab and ceviche. The ceviche had a fantastic and fresh flavor, and the crab was the most perfectly seasoned and succulent crab we have ever had. We had the pear and arugula salad and the smoked trout salad. Perfect amount of dressing, enough cheese and toppings to really compliment each ingredient without overpowering one another. For sides, we got duck fat fries, polenta cakes, and mushrooms. Mushrooms and polenta cakes were really good, and the duck fat fries are the best fries I have ever had. For our entrees, we enjoyed the sturgeon and the pork t-bone. The sturgeon was perfectly cooked and light and amazing, the pork was juicy and tender and so well flavored it was unbelievable. The service was outstanding- our server really reached out and made sure he knew what we were looking for so that we would get the most out of our dinner experience and drinks. Our water and cocktails never emptied. The ambiance was fantastic, the room was lit well and every table had a reasonable about of privacy, unlike many restaurants that shove the tables together. We went downstairs to enjoy another old fashioned next to the fireplace- the bar is even more beautiful than the tastefully decorated dining room above it. We never felt rushed and it was an incredibly romantic and perfect dinner. Can't wait to come back!!

This place never fails! Every single menu item I've tried has tickled my taste buds. Their scallops are always on par and the cocktails are mixed just right. Customer service is top notch and you're surrounded by a darker, cooler vibe than the usual Napa spot. Goose has become a must-stop whenever I'm in Napa Valley. Keep up the great work :)

5 stars all the way! A bit of a hiccup with figuring out seating outside but that was handled with ease and finesse Our server was super attentive, professional while still being charismatic and down-to -earth! The first round of cocktails and wine was perfection. I loved my gamay and all my friends loved their scarlett ganders and cucumber collins. In fact we got 2 free drinks because there was drink mistake at the bar. How very thoughtful that they thought of our table. Starters: popper $7 - an upscale version of the down home classic. Cojita and spanish crema inside a jalapeno how can you say no. I could, only because I was drowning in roasted bone marrow heaven. $13 I had several large marrows, with a tarragon mustard vinaigrette to smear (yes, I said smear) all over perfectly toasted bread. I had so much marrow I ran out of bread. A great deal and amazing! Entrees: several people ordered the G&G burger for $15 that thing was HUGE and rich with a side of duck fat fries (and for $3 more bone marrow melted a top). Because this was a special occasion I didn't go for the burger but I had a bite and it was quite the treat. The birthday girl ordered the pan-roasted chicken breast, she loved it and is still raving about it. $23 I ordered the gnocchi, which was light and fluffy swimming in a light tomato/basil sauce with a large parmesan crisp sitting a top. $18 Sides: roasted wild and tame mushrooms $6: so many great textures and flavors Yukon gold potato puree $5: creamy and savory dessert: an amazing lemon thing - a cross between a lemon custard and flan but more light and airy. Overall: a great experience! The food was all top notch, the service was beyond excellent , the prices were very reasonable and the ambiance was perfect! I will def be back with more friends or a romantic dinner date!

6/9/'14- On a sweltering, 95 degree Monday night in St Helena, we headed to the Goose & Gander for my birthday dinner. Our greeter/waiter, Colin, joked that he could squeeze us in somewhere...there were mostly empty tables, probably rare here. Sitting outside next to the fountain I started with the Bali spiced cocktail, loved the blend of spices, orange and bitters. Next we shared 3 appetizers; the scallops, dates and radish plates. All were delicious and fresh. Our main course selections were the salmon, which was served that night on a bed of bean ragout and hubby had the burger. Both terrific, perfectly cooked and I can't wait to come back for more of the same. Our waiter, Colin was attentive, funny and professional, we enjoyed his light banter and thorough knowledge of the food and libations. He finished off our meal with a complimentary birthday dessert of chocolate ice cream with hazelnut crackerjack. It was a birthday meal that will be remembered.

I loved this place. Incredible outdoor seating. Large leather couches make it a modern yet home-y outdoor space. There is a speak-easy esque bar downstairs where inventive cocktails are served alongside local wine. The main dining room is upstairs where large leather booths surround the corners. The vibe is very "Mad Men" and will make you want to step up your game with the dress code (though, it's not required there). The food is full of flavor. Try the burger. One of the best I've had! Seriously, we ordered another one for the table after all tasting it.

I just had my 40th birthday lunch at Goose and Gander on Friday and it could not have been more perfect. The staff was incredibly responsive and helpful (important, since we were flying in from NYC) The food was terrific, cocktails and wine were amazing, and the service was warm and friendly. We were well taken care of. We were huge fans of Martini House back in the day, and it's great to see this space so well-used and injected with new life. Thanks to everyone at Goose and Gander for a VERY special day.

If you ask you really need to listen. A nearby winery recommended this restaurant and provided a few particular insights. With this information our expectations were properly set and we had a very good lunch. The mushroom soup was excellent as was the specialty of the day. Our friends had sauteed spinach to go with their pan roasted chicken breast and mixed green salad. Watch for a little lax service as I'm not sure whether they were short handed or a little shy. We were seated outside in a very pleasant patio with good weather and conversation so we didn't mind the slight delay. It was also recommended to go into the bar but we had such a beautiful day the patio won.

The food was enjoyable but the service sucked... I don't look the part for fine dining just to see how the place will react and this place flopped... The waitress was supper attentive to the wine maker sitting next to us and completely ignored me and my girlfriend. It took twenty minutes to get sweetener for my iced tea. Definitively not coming back. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was the pork t bone was the most tender piece of pork I have eaten in a long time.

This was a really nice stop for lunch as we made our way through Napa. I had a salmon sandwich that was a special that day and it was really good. The dining area had lots of seating and there was even a nice outdoor seating area. I will definitely come back. TIP: Be sure to hold the menu far from the candle. (Long story. lol)

Oh so close to 5 stars and our visit was on day four of operation. The space, wow! The main upstairs dining room gorgeous. The staircase that takes you down to the bar area, genius. The wine rack lined walls that lead to the bar downstairs, hello lovely. The bar area itself, had a swanky, cabin like, pub feel. The outdoor patio is HUGE and when it's furnished, it will be thee place to sit and sip on one of their menu crafted cocktails. We had just come from dinner so we beelined to the bar for a nightcap of cocktails. But darn those Mushroom "Wellington" Spring Rolls made us all oooo as we took a gander at their menu offerings. They were served two per order so we felt what the hey. They came out rather quickly but what we found out was that the runner mentioned something about prosciutto. We thought that he had just misspoken but there was indeed Proscuitto inside. This was super surprising as we ordered them excited that they were a vegetarian item as there was no mention on Proscuitto on the menu. They were tasty but honestly the Proscuitto added nothing to the dish. I would have been more impressed if these were actually a vegetarian item as the menu lead us to believe. Our server Audrey was ever so polite and accommodating when it came to the Proscuitto fiasco. She even went above and beyond and had them removed from our bill. On to the reason we were here, the cocktails. Amen for social media as Goose & Gander was put on my radar via an instagram photo of the Cucumber Collins. This cocktail made up of vodka, Yuzu, lemon, pickled cucumbers, huckleberries, and seltzer was everything a cocktail should be. Strong yet subtle, sweet, tart, and cold (even their ice is awesome). One of the best darn cocktails I have ever had. Even a simple Manhattan wasn't so simple. It was really all in the stemware this drink was served in. The gold etched design around the top rim made this drink sexy. Too strong for my taste but it pleased the Manhattan lover that ordered it. I snagged a few sips of the Scarlett Gander (vodka, lemon, shiso, ginger, galangal, rhubarb, and mint) and frankly my dear, this was a damn great drink. If we hadn't of just come from dinner, I guarantee you we would have dined here. This totally the new place to be and a great addition to the Napa dining circuit.

This is one of my favorite bars ever! The ambiance is amazing! In a private basement feel. The upper restaurant and patio gardens are also beautiful and the food has never disappointed. Great place to stop in for a drink or go for dinner.

I had a lovely dinner here with friends while visiting the area. I was excited to try the cocktails after seeing all the reviews and I was not disappointed! I'm sad I only got to try one drink. The food was pretty good; I was excited to try the burger but actually found it disappointing. It was just a little too greasy for my tastes. But I also got to try the gnocchi and I was in love! The sauce alone I could eat for days. The desserts were pretty good too. The restaurant itself is lovely and the service was impeccable. For a nice night out, you can't go wrong with Goose & Gander. I hope I get to come back someday.

Had dinner here with a friend tonight and was lucky enough to have Thomas as our server. He was appropriately friendly (great sense of humor!) and made spot on recommendations! We enjoyed the bone marrow (Thomas even noticed one of our bones was sub par and brought us an extra one), octopus salad, cheese plate, and shrimp. Everything was fantastic! The octopus was tender with great flavor but the potatoes were the surprise of the dish! Yummilicious! Thomas recommended we eat the shell (not the head) of the shrimp and he was right! The food was timed well and plates/utensils were replaced between courses. As for the libations, we enjoyed the Cucumber Collins, Pear Shrub, Bourbon Buck, Old Fashioned, and Pimm's Cup. All were stupendous! Thank you Adam! Prices were reasonable, we were well satisfied, and Thomas even led us downstairs to the hidden bar where he secure a table for us to finish off our evening. I now live in Tacoma, but hope to return whenever I find myself visiting the fam!

Came here for lunch after some tasting. Beeeeeyewtiful food and cocktails. Wish I would have taken a picture of my super satisfying libation. Next time. We sat outside as it was perfect weather. The food was all delicious, NorCal cuisine. I would like to return for dinner. The building itself is gorgeous too. Make sure you check out the bar in the lower level. Very speakeasyish.

Highly refined food, creative drink menu and attentive cheerful service. Our party of six had a fabulous experience here. The steaks were cooked and seasoned to perfection over a fine spinach purée, the stripped bass was delish and the lone pasta dish was simple and focused. We all agreed that it was worth the $90 cab ride each way from napa. We would all go back in a heart beat.

Open for merely 5 days and PACKED when we walked in on a Saturday night! The location is gorgeous, the not yet furnished huge patio looks inviting, and the downstairs bar is just hidden enough to look like a well-kept secret. Our server Audrey was remarkably composed, gracious, attentive and well communicated - for any length of employment. But the fact that it's her 5th day makes her composure ever more noteworthy! Mushroom Wellington Spring Rolls - 2 to an order, these had so much potential! The menu doesn't note that they have prosciutto in them, and honestly the taste and texture would have been better without it. A creamy dipping sauce with chives came with. I don't drink, but my friends let me sip theirs: Scarlett Gander - slices of spiced rhubarb and mint leaves in a light and refreshing drinky Cucumber Collins - huckleberries and cucumber slices in another refreshing drinky Manhattan - whooo, strong for me! Served in an elegant champagne glass This place is clearly on people's radar already, and the menu looked super promising. Trying their burger, culotte steak, oysters, and more would draw me back for sure.

Pros: outstanding food and cocktails, beautiful and quiet setting Cons: atrocious service (no water until after appetizers, had to track down staff to ask our waiter to take our order, heat lamp wasn't turned on until entrees, wine didn't come out until entrees were on the table and was unapologetically unopened because it hadn't been chilled, extra items added to check)

I had lunch there 4/17/15 with a friend and two small dogs, and am shocked at the pricing of some of the items, particularly considering the portion sizes. I got the special fried green tomato BLT, for $16, and there was literally about a third of a tomato and MAYBE 2 slices of bacon, 2 lettuce leaves, way too much aioli, and bread that tore apart the roof of my mouth. I asked for a side of sauteed spinach instead of chips, assuming I might be charged extra, but the spinach was so salty, that neither my friend nor I, both salt lovers, could eat it. That was taken off the bill, however I ended up with no side for my sad sandwich, and still paid $16. I ordered a plain, skinless chicken breast for the dogs, without asking how much it would cost, and was STUNNED to find a $20 charge for it. I ordered the same thing on Tuesday at The Q (formerly Barbers Q) at Bel Aire Plaza in Napa, and it was $5. I believe I have paid at MOST $10, and I've ordered the same thing at most of the restaurants in the valley. The pan roasted chicken with mustard buerre blanc, rainbow carrots, spring onions and arugula offered on today's menu, is priced at $23. The highlight of the meal was a very good Angry Mule, which aptly describes my mood after such a disappointing and outrageously priced lunch. Our server, Aimie (sp?) was delightful, and everyone seemed to tolerate the dogs well enough. It's a shame, really, because I've loved that location (in Martini House form) for years, and have had a couple good meals in it's current incarnation, but too many bad ones now to really want to give it another chance.

My Fiancé and I have eaten here 4 times in 2 months. Every time the food is amazing. Go on Sunday for the Prime Rib and also order the Octopus or the Mushroom soup, both are out of this world. We enjoy good bourbon drinks and the Bourbon Buck with it sweet and hot ginger flavors are fantastic. Definitely an up valley favorite.

Perfect spot for Friday night dinner with bf. entryway alone was gorgeous, super elegant walkway and courtyard. Seated on main floor with dinner reservations, though the stairs down to bar looked very inviting. I didn't try their cocktails as I was pacing myself for the weekend but really regret it. Their featured cocktails all looked very interesting. Decor and ambiance was perfect for us because it felt fancy yet still casual enough to not have to change before dinner. Food was all fantastic, tried the bone marrow, gnocchi, and hanger steak. All very good and didn't break the bank. Service also very good for us. Nothing to rave about, food and service related, just very good but really just what you'd expect. For me, it was the atmosphere that did it as I lingered over coffee, not really wanting to leave. Must go back for the downstairs bar though.

Gander...you got me goose. I was really looking forward to the experience because the outside presentation of the establishment and hype heard in the street should've made this place a slam dunk but unfortunately another mediocre meal in a "world class mecca" to food and wine. The inside seemed warm and cozy at first but as we settled in the vibe of the staff was off and the duck decor was way more "lobster and canary" then had to be. There was little love in this food. A positive healthy atmosphere was not the case and the staff just seemed lack luster, off, or hung over. The pork shoulder was average and I almost forgot to even mention it. With The CIA dumping graduating brilliance into the valley like so much random veggies on top of fishie swordfish. I feel that the food should reflect the outside and not show up to the table looking like a chunk of cheap beef pilled on baby food with an onion ring on top. Step it up, bring the love and check into what the vibe should feel like and you will have something worthy

Spicy Skillet Roasted Prawns packed a bit of heat but nothing overpowering. Grilled Spanish Octopus was terrifically prepared, if a bit salty, and the Farmers Market Salad screamed of farm to table fresh. But the star for us was the cocktail menu. Each drink was precision prepared and served with garnish that was picked earlier in the day. Our choice to sit at the bar was rewarded with outstanding service and the opportunity to watch professional mixologists at work. If you're feeling a bit wined out and need a first rate cocktail experience check out Goose and Gander.

I have to say, Goose and Gander has been on my Napa To-Do list since I first decided to make such a list. The dishes ordered: Asparagus and smoked trout salad: perfection! Scallops: perfectly seared scallops served with a polenta cake, truffle cream sauce, crispy pancetta and I don't remember what else; all I know is that it was one of my favorite scallop dishes of all time! Definitely stood out against the other dishes for me. Octopus appetizer was fantastic; super tender. The sturgeon entree was incredible well done as well. (I loved the butter beans with it) For cocktails, I had the cucumber Collins. Square one, pickled & fresh cucumber, huckleberries... Mmm mmm!!! The patio seating is spectacular, but the indoor seating looked incredibly cozy and lodgey. Our server, Colin, was knowledgeable and friendly as well!

What an amazing experience, we went with a group and had about half the menu. The Jalapeño poppers were fantastic, not too spicy but a fun play on a simple common bar food. The watermelon and shrimp salad was very refreshing. We had ordered so much then we kept seeing burgers come out one after the other so we decided we needed to order one, we added the bone marrow for some extra flavor. This burger was so amazing we actually took turns drinking the juice that escaped as we devoured it. This is the place where you hold off on the wine and jump into the world of scott beattie, master mixologist. The cocktails here are a completely additional experience, everything we tried looked and tasted amazing. I would suggest ordering a drink or two that you would never think to order, sit back and be amazed.

Coolest bar in Napa Valley. Hands down. Best cocktails in Napa Valley. Hands down. Best place to eat and sit outside. Hands down. Got it? Good! Ambience and food is very good at this old martini house. The duck fat fries are a bit perplexing as they don't taste any different than Mickie D's (sorry). The burger is good, but not great. We did have a rather phenomenal dessert here once - creme brûlée with poached pears. Honestly one of the best desserts I've had anywhere. Don't pass up the Gander. It's a worth place to eat and is just a nice place to kick back and enjoy St. Helena.

The old lady liked this place more than I did. Nice dark atmosphere and good cocktails. Solid Manhattan. Service was ok, our server forgot about us twice but apologized. Things happen. We were cool with that. What made me dock stars though was the food. Bland. Bland. Bland. Is anyone seasoning back there? Needed more salt, more seasoning, and it was really greasy. I couldn't finish my meal. I mentioned it to our server and received a shrug in reply. The wife said her fish was "average." Think we'll stick to La Toque or Kitchen Door for our Napa trips.

One of the coolest places in Saint Helena to sit down and have a drink with friends. the downstairs is consistently loud and over crowded, how ever it is worth it. typically the bar is also over worked and understaffed, making it difficult to appreciate the hospitality aspect of the experience. the food makes up for any short comings. Put bone marrow on everything you order

Steller!! Went for dinner for my Birthday. Cocktails downstairs - always amazing - fun people watching and friendly people too to chat with. Upstairs for dinner - Scallops were ridiculous, I wanted to lick the plate. Mushroom soup was served in an espresso cup - good thing too - it was sinfully rich and tasty! Had a Walu and it was fantastic. Skip the Farro....that ancient grain churned in my stomach all night....and it was my birthday :(.... Waiter was fun and totally on the ball. Back to the Food/Cocktails and Ambiance: Go - Enjoy. Attire: I said dressy. You could go jeans casual - but for the level of food and service - dress up a bit and make it a night!

Worst service Awful food I was shocked at how little care the wait staff gave when we where there...so bad that we left in the middle of dinner and walked over to Travine for the 2nd night in a row. Don't come here!

I showed up right at noon and was seated outside right next to their small koi pond. I ordered G&G's Rosemary Pear Shrub from the bar. It was intensely flavored and tasted okay, not my favorite, though. I started with the Spring Rolls with chicken, mushrooms and served with spicy mustard and greens. The fried wrapper was a bit greasy, but the dish as a whole was very flavorful and tasty. For my main course, I went with the G&G Burger. My server said the chef suggested a medium doneness for the burger, and had no problems with that. When I took a bite, it was super messy and delicious. Every component was in balance, rich and flavorful. A few bites in, the burger was tough to manage and the meats juices ran out of the burger. My plate was literally flooded. It was cooked well done, also. Not sure if the burger needed a bit more time to rest or if it was a high fat blend... The duck fat fries were okay at best and not seasoned well enough. Service was very friendly and good.

Wow - Amazing!!!! This place never fails me. The food is absolutely delectable and the cocktails are luscious. The staff is attentive and the vibe is relaxed and never pretentious. Every visit I start with the octopus, fried olives and spice pistachios. This combination along with a Moscow mule puts me in a state of euphoria. I move on to the entree and just love that their menu includes a range of tastes, textures and temperatures. I'm so lucky this restaurant is close enough to home that I can satisfy my addiction to this place anytime. My favorite is when I can introduce this great restaurant to my friends and family.

I really love Goose and Gander and I hesitantly write this knowing that I'm only going to help the crowd become bigger and make it even harder to get a seat here. Let me first say that our hotel recommended that we stop here -- they just said it was cool, and when we came through the door, we knew exactly why. This is such a unique find in what can be a very pretentious St. Helena, and it's nothing like you might expect it to be. As a Napa Valley regular, I always look to find new stops with the hope that I'll find that one go-to spot for food, cocktails, you name it. This is now my go-to spot for cocktails and to relax at a bar. For the record, -1 star for a sticky bar. I wish it was tended to a little more than it is. The ambiance here is somewhat of a speakeasy meets rustic log cabin, with a touch of Napa Valley swankiness. The room was packed and there wasn't an empty seat in the house on a Saturday night. This wasn't the usual crowd I've seen in the valley-- You know, the 35+ husband and wife, but instead a much younger crowd who seemed to be a little more loose. We finally snagged a seat at the bar and ordered up a couple drinks -- I started with a Brandy Alexander, a cocktail meets eggnog if you will. Boozy, creamy and almost dessert in a glass. It was a really excellent mix --not too sweet and just the right amount of booze to contrast the creaminess. My second drink floored me -- I has the truly amazing Colonial buck, a very gingery, brandy cocktail. I asked the Bartender Scott (who I later learned is a well known mixologist) for my favorite drink, a Dark and Stormy (a rum/ginger beer mix), and he asked if he could mix it up and offer me something similar with a twist instead. It was so good that I recommended it to the couple sitting next to me who asked for a gingery drink, and they fell in love with it as well! This was really the highlight of the experience here for me-- I would go back to Goose and Gander for this drink alone. It's everything you could want in a cocktail. If you don't like the taste of ginger, by all means, DO NOT order this. But if you're crazy about ginger like I am, you'll wonder all night how you might be able to construct when you get home. Aside from the amazing drinks, this bar is an ulta cool kind of vintage, complete with what must be one-of-a-kind bronzey acorn lights attached to the bar. As soon as you walk down the steps and enter the door, you really are whisked into a another world. The lighting is low, and you feel like you've been transported away from St. Helena to some really sultry place in New York City. If you get lost in your surroundings, you can take a minute and focus on the bar, where there's likely a man hand-carving large ice spheres for the hard liquor orders. They isn't just for show, but so that the ice melts more slowly and cools the drink more than it does water it down. They know what they're doing here. Goose and Gander really offers a distinct experience that is both refined and offbeat at the same time. I can't wait to come back and try a meal here with my cocktail, but more importantly, to have another Colonial Buck!

First visit since conversion from Martini House, and a real treat. Just a quick but excellent lunch. I have always enjoyed the basement bar as it is such a fun, funky space. There are plenty of excellent bars and talented bartenders in the Valley, but few with anything near G&G's character. Thankfully the Barkeep behind the bar has the deft skill to keep up with the feel of the room. I love that neighbors at the bar were asking for a style of cocktail, and he free formed what appeared to be excellent drinks. The beer list is short, but sturdy and thoughtful and the wine list also efficient yet well thought out. The joy was in the burger. It was the best I have had in the Valley, and on par with in any in the Bay Area. Perfectly medium rare, excellent beef, spot on grilled bun, and the marrow...damn! The duck fat fries are crispy, and tasty. It's not free at $21 with marrow, but if ever a burger is worth +$20, this is the one. All in all, a great lunch spot and wonderful space downstairs. Highly recommended !

I'm a fan of their drinks...their food isn't the best in the valley, but it's not bad. I like to go down to the bar and split the burger with a friend, and add a second order of those amazing duck-fat fries!! my two favorite drinks are the Moscow Mule and the Scarlet Gander! Can't go wrong with these two refreshing and tasty drinks.

My friends and I had dinner here and all left feeling disappointed. The downstairs bar is very cute and they have a great cocktail menu. I would probably come again just for drinks. For dinner, the only thing we all enjoyed was the shrimp appetizer that was aggressively spiced and so good. The meatballs, artichokes, and corn croquettes were just "ok". I had the pork dish with pasta. It was pulled pork in a tomato based sauce on top of neon yellow pasta (think kraft mac and cheese). It was a disconnected dish. My friend had the burger and the beef patty was tough. If you cut into it, it just feel apart. We also had the steak and a salad - also just ok. Our waitress was nice but distant. It was a busy Friday night but she rarely came around to check on us and took a while to get her attention. Not worth the price and there are plenty of other great Napa restaurants to choose from.

Everything was amazing from the moment we walked in! The staff is beyond accommodating! When we arrived, we asked if we could sit on the patio, it was quite full, but they said no problem. They made fabulous wine and dinner rec's and were spot on. The Salmon is perfection! The Duck Fat fries were out of this world and I do not like duck at all. Also the fried Olives and Pistachio's were uniquely wonderful. We will definitely be coming back here! Thanks to everyone there for a fabulous first night in St. Helena!

The cocktails and downstairs bar were amazing! Innovative, fresh and tastefully made. We dined outside which was very beautiful and romantic. All of those things deserve 5 stars. The food is my reason for the low rating. We sat waiting for at least 10 minutes before a waiter came over and asked if we were being helped! He was very pleasant, however. We had the radish app. Basically picked out of the garden, slapped on a piece of romain. Mushroom soup. Very rich and creamy. Definitely enjoyable for a few spoonfuls. Main dishes were chicken, and flat iron steak. Boring. I would return for drinks in a heartbeat. Food, not so much.

I am a real fan of this place. The staff is very helpful and polite and just so very pleasant (the way it should be, of course). I love the location of Goose and Gander - looks like an old home. So very charming and the ambiance is just wonderful. I love the decor, the way the tables & booths are set up - there is really nothing to complain about. The stairs lead to an awesome bar area downstairs and it's an awesome bar!! The food is delicious as well. I ordered the scallops appetizer, but the waiter suggested throwing in an extra scallop (as it was going to be my meal) - he had the right idea. The scallops were perfect and the cous cous was delicious. We ordered a side of mushrooms, YUM. Also, my boyfriend ordered the pork something or other, it was phenomenal (and I don't even like pork). Everything was prepared perfectly. If you're in the area, you have to visit Goose & Gander. Unfortunately, we went on semi full stomachs but HAD to eat here. I look forward to going back when we can feast a bit more on some of their other delectable menu items. I love it here.

Awesome find. It was recommended by some locals and I can see why. The decor is clubby/shiek/wooded, like some place you might find Don Draper enjoying an Old Fashion. The food was amazing and being in Napa Valley the wine options were great. You can't go wrong with the cocktails either. Tons of options to choose from. We stopped in for lunch but next time I will make the effort to stop in for a late night snack and some nightcap cocktails. Oh, and the burger was amazing. One of the best I've had. (see photo)

I truly think I had the best pasta dish I've ever eaten at this restaurant. The Manila Clam fettuccine. I can not stop thinking about it. All five of us had excellent meals. The sides were delicious. The cocktails superb. Loved our waiter. Staff extremely helpful - we asked to have the music turned down, the umbrella's moved around - you name it - they handled it well. I thought the wine list was well priced. It was hot though - really really hot on that patio. Next time we will go later than earlier!

Stopped here for lunch and sat on the patio, which was really pretty. Nice apps, and jalapeño poppers with a great crunch (and minimal heat). The burger was great and juicy and messy and bacony, and the gnocchi were light yet truffle-y. Cocktails were nice too. It was a lovely place to linger.

This was an unbelievably good meal. After a day wine tasting, my girlfriend and I headed over here for dinner. Our local friend recommended it to us. Boy was she right. They started by bringing out a mushroom soup that was so flavorful, it got me excited to see what was coming next. We started by sharing the octopus. I have never had octopus that tasted so good. This octopus was so soft and tender but it had a great charred flavor too. It was amazing. It came dressed in a small salad and was great. We then shared the scallops in a white truffle sauce with bacon. I could eat it all day. The truffle sauce was incredibly flavorful. We then split the steak. It came on a bed of spinach and an onion ring fried in panko. I have decided that all onion rings should be made with Panko. We then finished the meal off with a hazelnut torte with fantastic ice cream. The service was top notch and our waiter was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back.

This review is for the downstairs bar only... We really liked the cozy & dark subterranean wine bar feel. We saddled up to the bar and received a warm and sincere greeting. The drinks menu was creative and our cocktails were good. But, then service became problematic. Both bartenders started shaving & chopping "Giant" ice cubes to fit inside their cocktail glassware. It was kind of hypnotizing at first to watch, but lasted far too long. The constant hacking was loud and distracting. They were quite intent in task, which is a probably good thing as we imagined a mistake would have been pretty horrific and gruesome (and especially as only one of them wore gloves!) But, this lead to the problem... Once they started chopping away, it was nearly impossible to get their attention to order a second drink or even get the bill. Can't they do this activity during their prep-time instead my cocktail hour? But, given the many good food reviews here and from friends, maybe we'll try dinner at the tables next time and avoid the bar seats.

The Goose and Gander was a highly recommended place to us by some friends of mine in New York. Upon arriving I found the restaurant hard to find. For some reason my GPS could not locate the establishment. We parked a few blocks down and had to walk around a while before we found it. When we arrived we immediately went to the bar. It was the first restaurant we went to as it was our first day in the Napa valley. Long flight and a stressful drive from San Francisco, we needed a drink or three. The drink list was one step above amazing. The only problem I found was that there was too many great options to choose from. We were recommended a scotch drink and even though I am not a scotch drinker I was extremely impressed. From the get go the bartender was impressive and knowledgeable. He recommended several other restaurants that we went to as well as some hidden wineries off of Howell Mountain. We had to wait a while for our table to be ready which I took as a good sign. My expectations for the wait came at a disappointment. It looked like the wait was not because the restaurant was popular but rather because it was new. Food was good not great. The pork belly wedge was a nice surprise just not up to par for me. I loved the Charcuterie plate as I found it a nice collection. I found the menu selection rather disappointing however the G&G burger was amazing. Service too was just ok. Perhaps it was because it's a new spot and they have some kinks to work out.

YUMMMMMMMMM! We stopped in for lunch and had the roasted bone marrow (cowboy butter), the special which was a catfish sandwich, and the G & G burger. It was so good and so rich and I couldn't stop saying it all day... "That was so good." Oh and their special cocktails are delicious, they really are like art and are so refreshing. It is a must if you are in the area, I can't wait to go back for dinner.

OK, what's good for the goose is also good/great for us! We've been here numerous times since that first visit. I realized how much I love this place more and more after our amazing dinner this week... A must - Seared Scallops over Freed Green Tomatoes! YUM! The Pork Belly Wedge! Amazing! Wine - Fabu! We're so lucky to have this as one of our many haunts in the neighborhood... Living in the Napa Valley we do get a bit spoiled, but Goose and Gander makes it that much more special. Brittany was our waitress and she was amazing!

Upon arrival our waiter didn't make the best of impressions (overly chatty with a larger nearby table) and very slow to get the drink order. My husband ordered the meatballs appetizer and I ordered the scallops. We definitely enjoyed our dishes but for the prices we weren't "wowed". I had a salad for the main course (as an earlier post stated-the options for vegetarians are pretty limited). The salad was very good. My husband ordered the burger and proclaimed it to be the "best burger he has ever had". The highlight of the meal by far was the dessert! Wow! We ordered the peanut brittle dish and it was absolutely delicious!

Goose & Gander. Well ahead of it's time, with a heavy respect for the past. Subtle in nature and gorgeous in landscape; G&G redefines a neighborhood joint. A home situated off the main road; garden doors welcome you into a secluded culinary garden along a block corner. After a long day of moving my sister into town, we traveled in before the dinner hour and grabbed a comforting booth in the downstairs bar. Dark woods accent the bar, and dimly lit bulbs manage the warm current held within. Jalapeno peppers with Cotija-Piquillo filling and Spanish Crema set the meal. Light crunch on the exterior soft lining of the peppers brought richness to the simple and playful dish. Skillet roasted prawns in garlic butter infused with chili peppers followed. The well of sauced butter raised the prawns to new life, and the hint of heat that shadowed rounded out the plate. The ace of the meal was the G&G Burger. Hickory bacon, a house made island sauce, and a grass fed patty easily makes this one of the best burgers I've ever had. Duck fat fries compliment the dish. Every plate resonates with the surrounding philosophies of wine country. Farm to plate. Organic. And never settling but for the best. Goose & Gander has legs, and will be well traveled by the end of it's time.

Great cocktails, interesting wine list, delicious food and warm service. I loved G&G for lunch and I'll be sure to return when I'm in the area. They had plenty of vegetarian small plates and the chef's special vegetarian plate was delicious and inventive. Kudos!

I certainly appreciate the other reviews...but, I can't give more than average as a combined score. Our cucumber and squash salad was delicious. The burger was delish too but heavy with special sauce and bacon. The fries were terrific. Now for the not so great part. We sat on the bench with backs to the kitchen. The staff chatter was loud and not work related. Whoever I could hear talked nonstop about food in Hawaii, other fun things he had been doing. It was hard to hear my dining group and so distracting with other staff chiming in. The other part was there were only 3 dining parties but we waited a long time from salad to main course. I found the environment not fun or warm but dark and cold. The food gets the 3 stars but as a local, there are other comfortable places with food just as good. Sorry.

G&G has a great bar in the basement with hard-to-find spirits at a reasonable price. Upstairs, the restaurant is warm and inviting with attentive staff. The food is terrific. Our party of four had warm olives and French fries (cooked in duck fat) to start. The wine list contained local winners at reasonable prices. Main courses were sturgeon, local crab, pork chop and scallops. All were terrific! We'll be back....

Love this place. Quality food (ridiculously good burger and loved the padron peppers), great Atmosphere (both inside and out) and simply amazing cocktails (hand carved giant balls of ice) The staff is also always super friendly.

I got then g&g burger and good fat fries. It was delicious. Not a huge menu but a great variety of food. A wide selection of wines too. The cheese platter was great and I loved the atmosphere. Perfect for a wonderful spring day!

This place was amazing! From the apps to the drinks and everything in between was great. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the diverse menu. The restaurant had a great patio, which is where we sat. We had a variety of apps which were all good and I had the octopus for dinner which was a great choice. They have an extensive bar and drink menu. The "bourbon buck" was fantastic!

My wife and I last visited when it was called Martini House. The bar in the basement is fantastic...dark, cozy, fresh herbs on the bar smell great. My Old Fashioned was unique and delicious and the huge chunk of ice they hand carve was cool.

Be sure to order the spicy skillet roasted whole prawns. They may be a little on the messy side, but definitely tasty! The day boat scallops were fresh and with the crispy pancetta who could ask for more? My entrée: The Grilled Flat Iron Steak. Full of meaty flavor and the light & crispy onion rings topped it off to a tee. The cocktails are a must have! My favorites: Scarlett Gander & Cucumber Collins. The bar area was cozy and a great place to gather with friends, while watching them make the beautiful & delicious artisanal drinks behind an array of herbs and flowers. Great ambiance & service. We'll definitely be back!

came here with a large group of about seventeen people to have drinks on their lovely outdoor patio. the table they provided was long and spanned a good portion of the patio, giving us ample space to stand up and around the table to mingle freely. the chairs were super comfortable and the ambiance in general was very inviting. the specialty cocktails were good and inventive. i had something involving fresh cucumbers as well as pickled cucumbers that was refreshing. great place to just hang out. the food looked pretty good too. someone mentioned a burger with bone marrow which intrigues me.

If you are looking for a higher cost very nice dinner this would be the place to go! I had several different items for each coarse and it was amazing to say the least. All the food is local and is fresh, the wait staff is very friendly and personal and will give you very good suggestions, the building is 2 stories with the restaurant on the second story with a very busy and happening bar on the lower story below. Highly suggest and the menu frequently changes so you wont have the same thing twice, highly recommended

I drove out for a Girls' Night Out dinner with 5 girlfriends, for three glorious hours filled with amazing food, drinks, and laughter. We decided to order a lot of plates and share things. We started at the bar where I had the first of my Coastal Pimm cups, beautiful and deliciously balanced. The bartender made nonalcoholic cucumber Collins for nondrinkers, who both raved about it. My friend enjoyed their Manhattan with a HUGE ice cube. We also had the charcuterie plate. I am still dreaming about that duck prosciutto. I may have to go back just for that. We had the duck Nd chicken wings, which were another favorite. Oh so sinfully delicious. Although not usually an olive fan, these are incredibly tasty. We swore they were stuffed but aren't. The ceviche of halibut was artfully presented, and had well balanced flavors. Also had the whole prawns, we all loved them but also agreed you shouldn't eat the shell (though you can). I had to try the meatballs just to figure out what the spice was for the group, I was guessing Harissa. We had two of the 3 salads, the arugula and the spinach. My friend had ordered the spinach and I didn't try it but she raved about it. One friend ordered the beet salad, and on her recommendation, I ordered another. It was the one dish I didn't care for, though my friend still talks about it. The rest of the group tried the halibut, and most just thought it wasn't the best dish of the night. My friend ordered herself the fettucine with sausage and thought it was great. We also had the asparagus and puree (which the table couldn't stop telling me about-apparently I'm a freak for not liking mashed potatoes). We ordered 3of the 4desserts, and had it not been rude, would have licked the plates. Service was absolutely wonderful, and all 6 of us look forward to going back!

I am so glad that this place has reopened in the great building that they are in. I haven't eaten here yet, but I LOVE this bar!. The bar is downstairs and is very cozy, the bartender really knew his stuff and it was fun to sample some local things that I hadn't tried yet. The best thing to me is that this place is only two stumbling blocks from my house, so I am a little biased :-)

Wonderful atmosphere! There is an outdoor patio, a well lit dining room, and a cozy downstairs bar. Vegan options on the regular menu were limited. The chef happily prepared a special vegan plate for me!! My plate involved avocado puree, tempura asparagus, rainbow carrots, artichokes, peas, and daikon sprouts. Everything was wonderful. The cocktails were amazing as well. I am looking forward to coming back.

Friends and I were wine tasting, had a fabulous winter day in Napa. We had reservations at Goose and Gander and were wondering if it would truly put a star on top of our wonderful day. It did!!! First off, our server was friendly yet very professional (I am guessing he had been well trained). The meal was soooo good. Seasoning was perfect and arrival of the courses was perfectly timed. We will definitely make Goose and Gander our dining pleasure after wine tasting. Keep up the excellent serve and food:)

What a fantastic Restaraunt! Beautiful romantic setting, outdoor patio seating. We started with seared scallops, followed by rock shrimp and watermelon salad. Both were awesome. We shared the best halibut ever and a flat iron steak that was cooked to perfection, topped with a pair of homemade onion rings!. The Executive chef originally started one of our favorite hometown spots, Ellas in Sacto. Prior to coming to St. Helena. Highly recommend!

Goose and Gander was amazing. Everything from the staff, the unique cocktails, delicious and artistic food and beautiful atmosphere. I couldn't say more and more wonderful things about this place. It's just perfect. Such a gem for the Napa Valley! I loved our first part of evening in the bar downstairs, sort of like a dark Irish pub of sorts, but really it's about the brilliant Mixoligist who created such a fantastic menu of cocktails. Cucumber collins was my favorite drink! Then the food, the salads, cheese plate, entrée...everything was so delicious and made our evening exactly how we hoped it would go. Then we went back on Sunday for their live music from 1-4pm (in the summer), enjoyed a cocktail in the warm summer air, some light eats and off we went back to San Francisco. Goose and Gander is up there with some of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. You have to go to G n G if you are in St. Helena or passing through!!!

Great Wine Country destination in the former Martini House location in St. Helena. To start with, this place has great cocktails! We were seated in the bar downstairs while we waited for our table, so had a chance to enjoy the fantastic drink offerings, but we didn't have to wait very long for our table. Then we were seated right in front of the open kitchen, which was a treat as we were able to observe all the activity - reminded us of a Gordon Ramsey show as the head chef was barking out orders to the hustling non-stop staff.. The appetizers were standouts, especially the fried olives and pistachios dish (yes- try it!). A couple of us had the cream of mushroom soup which may be the smoothest, creamiest-textured soup I have ever had, but we all agreed that it was slightly bland and missing something in the seasoning. The asparagus and smoked trout salad was great! Everyone enjoyed their entrees, including a very tasty burger, excellent chicken dish and good, not great, salmon... We were too stuffed for dessert, so can't comment on those, but the ones that traveled past us sure looked good. Service very good although a bit uneven, with some long waits in between courses, but this could have been a result of our location which as I mentioned, was closer to the kitchen than the rest of the dining room...a great experience overall. price was reasonable for the quality and location. I would go back....if not for dinner then it would be awesome as a spot for just cocktails and hors d'oeuvres...The high level of noise in the jammed dining room was the only major flaw. Might prefer the outdoor garden patio next time.

I visited the restaurant this evening and was very pleased. I chose to sit at the downstairs bar because I always loved the look of the room when it was Martini House. Once seated the group next to me suggested I try the cucumber collins. It was fantastic. The only way it would be any better would be if it was 100 degrees outside. The presentation is very cute too with pink pickled cucumbers and fresh green cucumbers stuck to the inside of the glass and a scoop of huckleberries on top. I enjoyed how the pickled cucumbers slowly turned the drink pink. Onto my food. I ordered the prawns. I believe there were 6 prawns with the heads still on in a delicious shallot/garlic sauce. All of this was over a polenta cake. The dish had great flavor. For dessert Bob, the bartender, suggested I try the almond torte. He did not lead me astray. It was a slice of almond cake topped with fruit compote. It came with vanilla ice cream, candied sliced almonds and a sugared grossini. It was so tasty. It would have gone well with a nice cup of coffee (I was informed that all the coffee is french press, yum) but I had work at 4 am the next morning so even decaf would have been too much for me. All in all, I was very impressed with this place and am excited to watch it grow and flourish in St. Helena. I was also very impressed with the service. When a restaurant is new, there can be so many kinks especially in service. Bob was personable and very knowledgeable about the menu. He noticed that I was interested in the drinks and showed me the giant ice cubes he was cutting for the Manhattans, Old-Fashions... I look forward to visiting this place many more times whether that be for a drink after work or a fancy dinner with the boyfriend.

Really really excellent drinks - the Cucumber Collins is very refreshing (especially after a long day in the sun), and the food exceeds expectations as well. The viet-inspired watermelon and shrimp salad I had was just out of this world and paired perfectly with the recommended drink. The service was attentive but not pushy, and since we'd walked in later in the evening, they encouraged us to sit around and chat for as long as we wanted. Definitely worth a return trip to check out some of the other menu choices. The downstairs bar was also lively and happenin' so it would be a fun place to pop in for HH too!

I cannot attest to the food here but the cocktails are something I will think about for a long time. Over a long weekend my husband and I tried quite a few of their cocktails and not one was bad. The walnut Lazarus is one to go down in history and they told me how to make it at home. Bartenders will make recommendations based on what you like and are fairly friendly. We did have some duck fat chips that were good but the cocktails are just amazing! You will not be sorry you went here.

Loved, loved, loved this restaurant. Such a unique atmosphere- great to be able to see the chef do his thing and have a waiter (Thomas) who knew his stuff and obviously loved the food. I had an amazing mojito cocktail or 2 and the scallop appetizer, gnocchi, and a chocolate dessert. I was with 5 friends, we all ordered something different and each loved everything (tried a bite of their mashed potatoes and they were ridiculously good.) We went to a lot of great restaurants on our Napa Valley trip, but if I had to pick one to go back to, Goose & Gander would definitely be it.

If you have had enough wine for the day Goose and Gander is one of the best places hands down to have a cocktail. Great outdoor seating, the staff is one of the best, and very accommodating. When it comes to food this place is outstanding! The burger is amazing however don't let that stop you the sea bass was unbelievable. Having been here numerous times I could go on an on about the food but I'll just leave it at this you cant go wrong!

So happy with this place. It is so hard to find a good restaurant that has almost everything working well within the first two weeks of opening. We went on a Thursday evening after work for cocktails and apps in the downstairs bar. Upon walking in, it was pretty packed already at 5:45. We grabbed the last table and were thrilled to have found a seat. We were promptly greeted by our server who I would describe as quirky, nice and energetic. She knew the menu very well and answered our questions without hesitation. Our group ordered several drinks - the Cucumber Collins, Scarlet Gander, Pimms Cup an Old Fashioned. We loved loved loved them. I had the collins, which was quite possibly one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Not too strong but not to light, I could have easily order several more but had to drive :( The Old Fashioned comes with a gigantic ice chuck, almost the size of the glass and looks very cool. All in all, the drinks were fab. On to the food...we ordered the baby asparagus, mushrooms, meatballs, scallops and prawns. The asparagus and mushrooms were good, perfectly cooked and savory, but then again, how do you screw up something that easy? The meatballs were yummy but had a texture you wouldn't expect, smooth and not coarse. They were seasoned to perfection, definitely a combination of pork and sausage but not TOO sausage-y (which I hate). The bread crumbs on the top really made the dish, and the meatballs were engulfed in caramelized mushrooms and garlic cloves. Yum. I did not have the seafood dishes but the others enjoyed them, the prawns in particular. The prawns were on the spicy side, so the scallops tasted bland in comparison but they were cooked to perfection. The prawns came with the skins on, which we thought was weird and took extra effort to get off. In addition, the skins were what was spiced and not the actual meat, so after peeling them half of the taste went away, but still very yummy. The ambience is great...it's trendy but dive-y at the same time. Very comfortable, dim lighting and the bar has fresh herbs in vases all around so it gives a little pizzaz. Good music, a lot of classic rock like Clapton etc... So, overall a great experience. The only negative was that I ordered a water and my friend ordered a club soda and we never got them. Not a big deal for a busy Thursday bar scene. However, I am a firm believe that if you are out at a restaurant, whether dining or just at the bar, you should always be given water right off the bat. It's just the polite thing to do and prevents you from running into instances where people have to order it and never receive it.

My wife and I were travelling wine country in Napa and were discussing our love of other spirits with someone at a top vineyard in Napa. She suggested that we go to Goose and Gander for the cocktails. To our endless benefit we did. The cocktails at this bar are among the best in the entire world. As New Yorkers we have nearly endless access to high end cocktails and I would have to say the single best whisky drink I have ever had was the "Leatherman" at Goose & Gander (with the Bali Spice Old Fashioned being a close second). Their attention to detail will be appreciated in every single sip. Although I did not eat here I heard the food was quite delicious and the menu impressed me as did the food I saw being delivered during my visit.

I would like to thank the owners of this restaurant for making every special occasion group dinner I've ever had here a home run! We visited last Saturday night and the service and menu are amazing. We always hit the bar downstairs for an hour before dinner, like in the old days! Outside seating is also great. Our group of 8 started with the Jalapeno Poppers, wow! Then the croquettes, Wow. Onto the meatballs and the Shrimp, great! Then I had the most amazing Gnocchi I've ever tasted. It rivals Biba and that's no easy task. Lauren came by and said Hi and we were so glad to meet her finally. The crew was very helpful to keep all of us on track after wine tasting all day. Thank you!

Finally... hit this dark and sultry place years after it's original creation as Martini House. Loved the 30s dark decor on the inside: black leather chairs, dark wood and stuffed geese as decor. Staff were friendly and attentive... entrees? YUM! Cheese and charcuterie plates were perfect! My favorite, albeit simple side dish was the polenta. Any place that can make this perfect... is a rockstar.. and they do this well! My entree: The Bucatini with Berkshire Pork Sugo was divine! Perfectly cooked pasta with all the scrumptious layers of ingredients... black truffle being one of them! Best of all was their cocktails... definitely will be back for their Rosemary Pear Shrub (209 Gin, Rosemary Pear Shrub, Ginger, Lemon Juice, Seltzer). I see this as being the go to place on those nice long summer nights soon!

I liked Goose and Gander (this naming convention for restaurants is puzzling me, but that's okay). We had a nice lunch here, and I mourn the loss of Martini's so it was nice to see something back in its place. I'll try it again for a full dinner sometime soon.

I ate here over Memorial weekend. They were trying out a new menu and I ordered the shrimp. It was delicious going down, however, I got severe food poisoning and spent the next day laying on the floor of my hotel bathroom, vomiting. I missed my tasting appointments and that was my last day in Napa. There are so many wonderful eating options such as Farmstead, Market, Cook, Mustards, etc. that this is totally unacceptable.

First time here last night. Last I dined at this location it was Martini House. I was able to get reservation for 2 within 2 hours and upon arrival seated immediately. Dined at main level - near kitchen, so noise level pretty high (could not hear the music playing); but not an issue for my wife and I on this eve. Wife's cocktail was good - cucumber collins. Best porkchop I have had in a very long time. Not only that the chop was cooked to perfection, moist, and flavorful; it was the bed of white beans, bacon, mushrooms, roasted garlic that made the plate. We added side of carrots and it added well to the dish. I am a fan and will be back. If want quiet - ask for downstairs or outdoors. Wine list very good and like most in this region fairly pricey. Found a very good half bottle of Hirsch Pinot Noir to go with my chop. Left there full and HAPPY.

Disappointing late night fare As a local, I have now visited Goose and Gander twice for late night grazing after catching a movie at the Cameo. Last night I returned around eleven and had another disappointing experience. The meatballs were mushy, the hamburger that I asked to be medium rare was overcooked and dry, the radish plate was a mélange of radishes literally thrown into a bowl, the duck fat fries were hard as nails, and there was no bread. "Other than that, how'd you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" The Goose and Gander is a very attractive place, and it's great to have a place that's open late . However, more attention needs to be paid to designing a good bar menu and to preparation and service.

So good!!! Great food, fast service, amazing atmosphere. Tried the corn appetizer, prawns, swordfish, mashed potatoes....loved all of them! They also have an enormous wine menu and extensive cocktail list. We ordered an Old Fashioned (yum!) and a drink called a Scarlet Gander (just ok--wouldn't order it again). We sat outside on the lovely patio. The inside bar is super cute. Try this place!

STAY AWAY!!! While the food is very good, the service is HORRIBLE. Our waiter may have said 10 words to us all night, drinks were never refilled (except once on request), dessert menus were tossed at us. Maybe it's because we weren't drinking? The two drunk ladies next to us got plenty of attention from staff... whatever it was, this is the first time I almost withheld a tip - and only tipped because it's obvious the kitchen staff was working really hard and the food was done perfectly. I had a really good tomato soup and a very good burger, my wife had a blue cheese wedge (which she thought had an odd flavor, but I liked) and a steak with onion rings. All the food was very good, but you can get the same food done just as well, if not better, in other places. And you can get it all WITH great service someplace else. For steak frites, you can't beat Bouchon and for a great burger, try Bistro Don Giovanni. There are too many great places in St. Helena - Cooks, La Condesa, Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen, Market, with great food and matching service... why go to someplace where they make you feel they're doing you a favor when they decide to pay attention to you? McDonald's treats you with more respect. Needless to say, I don't think we'll go back unless they radically overhaul their service.

GREAT out door seating area! I stopped here for lunch mid-wine tasting and it was the perfect spot to enjoy some tasty good and have a beer (yes, a BEER, it was time to switch it up from wine!) The service was good, the atmosphere was great! I was surprised how quiet it was for a Friday afternoon in the summer but that never really bothers me. We got the stuffed jalapenos which were good although I wish they were a little spicier. The fried olives w/ pistachios which were very unique. And the fried chicken sandwich and G&G burger were both were very juicy and delicious. I would recommend this place to any one in the area. I only wish I had more time to sit and relax and enjoy the food. But we were on a serious time crunch to get to our next appointment.

Fabulous dinner fare! Based on recommendations for our waiter we enjoyed the steak, sturgeon and roasted bone marrow. Great ingredients thoughtfully prepared; clearly labors of love by the chef. Our waiter, too, shared the chef's passion as he enthusiastically imparted detailed knowledge on the food preparation, wine and cocktails. We trusted him implicitly and were not disappointed. Super cocktails, especially the Moscow mule. The chocolate tart for dessert was perhaps the best I've had on this side of the Atlantic. Yum! Finally, the dark rich ambiance and comfortable leather seats beckoned us to engage in long, unhurried conversation. All around, a wonderful dinner experience. Already planning a return visit!

Outstanding setting and decor. Downstairs Bar - one of the nicest in the valley - very english - very cozy!!!!!!!!! Pub food was good not great. What I mean is that you will definitely enjoy your food - but it may not be up to that offered by its St. Helena competitors (Farmstead, Terra, Cook, etc.) There is no doubt that this restaurant will ROCK once it finds its bearings.

The food here is very tasty and the portions are fair. Chef Kelly does a great job with the menu. On the other hand, it's a real shame that the service management puts more emphasis on managing their cell phones than managing the service department. Being seated at a table with dirty and spotty silver and glassware is nowhere near the expected Napa Valley standard. Having to ask servers and bussers to remark the silverware that they cleared in the first place, while the manager scrolls through his iPhone is simply ludicrous. Hopefully the management team can figure out what's important to the customers touring one of the finest dining areas on the globe. Otherwise, praise Chef Kelly for holding this place upright.

Had a very tasty lunch here while on a day trip to Napa with my girl friends. The scallop appetizer was our favorite, the polenta cake on the bottom was delicious and the sauce was just stupendous! The bone marrow appetizer was very tasty too, but the salad was rather on the small side, particularly since we were splitting everything between four of us. We split the grass fed burger and the special of the day, a fried chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread. Both were very decent. We loved the decor sitting outdoors on such a warm, sunny day. It's cute and cozy, a great place to go relax with some good food and cocktails. Goose and Gander is situated in St. Helena, right by where all the quaint boutiques and shops are, so it was also very delightful to take a walk around before or after.

I have no idea how on earth out of all these wonderful reviews, we were the only ones who had a terrible experience here. I am sure the food is good but unfortunately we never really got a chance to learn for ourselves because the service was so bad, we literally walked out. Server made no conversation, we had to pour our own wine and water, we had to ask for bread with our salads THREE F-IN TIMES and when it did finally arrive, (after salads were gone) it was ICE COLD. After eating two small (tiny) salads for $9 each (lettuce and dressing was it), my husband handed the owner $20 (because we pay for what we get, we are honorable people after all) we left. The owner did try to make peace, even offered to not charge us for the bottle of wine. Unfortunately this wasn't enough as the $50 bottle was ours to begin with and a shameful waste. After spending three days in Napa Valley, eating at wonderful restaurants like Farmstead, Mustards and Tra Vigne, it is very unfortunate that THIS joke of an experience had to be on our last night. On another note, on our way out to Sacramento Airport the next day, we stopped at McDonalds for Egg Mc Muffins and have to say, even that was a better experience. Will never go back.

Had lunch at Goose and Gander with friends recently and was very impressed! BEST BURGER EVER! No joke...it was hands down incredible...and be sure to add the roasted bone marrow for extra flavor and juiciness. The cocktails are tremendous, too. This is definitely on our go list every time we head to the Wine Country.

With one regrettable meal in Napa I won't dare mention, we were on a cuisine redemption mission. Taking a suggestion from a fellow Tampa food blogger, we concluded our time in Napa with a post wine-tasting lunch at a little cottage eatery with one big attitude on local food. Goose and Gander, a rustic pub set in delightful St. Helena, not only served me one of the best cocktails I've ever sipped on but also the most bodacious burger I've ever laid eyes on. Made with fresh and pickled cucumber, huckleberries, yuzu, tonic and a serious pour of vodka, the Cucumber Collins cooled me down and hit the spot on my wine drenched tongue. he G&G Burger, arriving after a starter of Padron Peppers was enormous and perfect to split. House-smoked bacon, caramelized onions, gruyere, homemade pickles and even a smothering of bone marrow were all the toppings to a juicy, melt-in-your-mouth slab of organic, grass-fed beef. Heck yes. With drool-worthy duck fat fries on the side, we were in culinary bliss. A flawless finale to our amazing time in Napa.

We went here with a large group for an organized business dinner. The food was HORRIBLE and a complete rip-off. For $60/person, we got: salad (a heap of mixed greens dressed in oil and salt, no other veggies or flavor); either chicken (ok portion, cold, not much flavor, on a tiny amount of carrots) or salmon (the tinest portion I have ever seen for a main course, like a 1.5x 2 inch piece of fish on a bed of creamed peas), and an almond cake dessert that was just ok. No starch for either dish. Everyone was very dissapointed and left hungry. The service was not great either. Would definitely not go back.

Food + Service was outstanding! Indulged in the special of the night - swordfish cerviche with freshly made taro chips. Delectable and worthy of seconds but our fantastic server suggested we allow room for the burger and duck fat fries. Great recommendation! This might be the best burger we've had in ages. Goose & Gander certainly rivals many of the top NYC restaurants. Oh and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Locals tend to hang out downstairs in the bar area where you have access to the full menu.

Food overall was slightly over cooked and a bit salty. It's noisy here, really noisy with bad acoustics. Menu was imaginative, lots of credit to the chef. The octopus which sounded great and given high acclaim by staff suffered from being a bit too charred and have chile sauce killed the subtle flavor of what could have been amazing.

Far from a fave. So-so food. Weird gnocchi. Sub-par service. With all the options in the valley, this place won't get a repeat visit.

Loud rock music on an almost empty, but otherwise attractive, patio is not conducive to conversation or enjoyment of dinner. At first, the hostess offered to turn down the music or even change it to something more mellow, but the manager refused, and in an extremely officious tone told our party of 6 that the inside of his restaurant was full and he didn't need to accommodate our preferences. Maybe not that night, but the Napa Valley is full of really good food options with much more pleasant staff, and Goose and Gander won't be the first restaurant to fail on that site. We ended up having a really good meal down the street.

The food was delicious, the service was not great. Beautiful patio, great cocktails and apps (try the Scarlett Gander and the scallops, amazing!) I just wish our waiter had paid better attention to us, he really did not do a good job. I'd go back, but next time probably just to the bar downstairs for drinks and apps.

Disclaimer: I am here with embarrassing frequency. I am obsessed with G&G. I would move in if they let me. Going to Goose and Gander is like coming home, if my home was decorated warmly and comforting like the embrace of a long-lost friend, and if I was handed perfectly crafted cocktails that are a work of art in and of themselves (to paraphrase one of my idols, 'they belong in a museum!') when I walked through the door. The food is amazing, too. Meatballs with mushrooms in the summer (*swoon*), fried padrons, scallops, softshell crabs!, three words: duck. fat. fries.... I still dream about the fontina with figs & duck that was recently retired due to seasonality. I'm not a huge red meat eater, but I had some of a friend's steak there a few weeks ago that miiight have changed my life. Don't even get me started on 'the Fergus'... While I mourn items from seasons past, I'm always the first person in the door to try the new menu items when the mouth-watering photos are temptingly posted on Twitter. Service? I am a hospitality professional, and I'd like to think some what of an authority on service. So, when I say they are right up there with any of the other fine dining establishments in the Valley, I would like to think it holds some weight. In fact, they have gone above and beyond on multiple occasions - just last week I wanted to try a cocktail I'd read about that wasn't on their (extensive) list, and the bartender told me to look it up on my smartphone and created it for me! How cool is that?? G&G is a 'Must Visit' when you're in Napa Valley. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a little Honey Badger and Duck Fat Fries, just budget yourself for spending the rest of your evening there, because once you get a taste you won't want to leave!

I have only been downstairs in the bar but it is the best place to be! The bartenders have SKILLS! They have a full bar and know how to use it. On a hot day the Cucumber Collins, Mojito and Scarlet Gander are the best picks. I usually get a salad or the scallops but the burger looks to-die-for. It is the best place and town if you are single.

Our experience at Goose and Gander was amazing! Took a few minutes for them to seat us and for the waiter to come to our table, but once she got there, she was very attentive. The food was so good, it just got better and better. Got the Octopus, which was really good and flavorful. Next we got the Roasted Bone Marrow.....OMG, delicious, I know it sounds disgusting, but it is sooo good! Then we got the Swordfish...I never thought I could say that a piece of fish was as good as a steak but this fish was outstanding! The flavors just explode in your mouth! The dessert was real good too. I wish I lived closer so we could go back all the time!

My "little" sister was in town last weekend for a getaway weekend and we decided to hit Goose & Gander on a friends recommendation. WOW!! What a fantastic experience..from the reservation process, to the welcome/greeting, to bartender to our dinner server--all Ah-mazing! Started off with a couple of killer cocktails down in the bar: I had the Manhattan and it was fantastic! Loved the one single hand carved block of ice for my ice cube. My sister had a dirty martini with extra olives and said it was the perfect amount of dirty! On to the apps: Crispy Castelvetrano Olives ($6): what a great and different take on olives...crispy with a little bite in the seasoning; surrounded by in-shell pistachio's with the same seasoning. nice start! Also had the Wood Grilled Octopus ($16) and Seared Day Boat Sea Scallops-both were wonderfully prepared and delicious. We split two salads: Berkshire Pork Belly Wedge- a different and delicious take on the wedge salad. And the Heirloom Chicory Salad-my sister's favorite of the night-thereforeI I was lucky to get a bite! Since we were both getting full, we decided to split our entree, the Seared Striped Bass "Cioppino"....fantastic! Fresh seafood...the Bass was perfectly cooked! The desserts looked delicious...but we decided to leave that for our next trip! Overall, a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back next time I am up in Napa-there are a few other items on the menus (drinks and food) that caught my attention and after this experience I will be back to try them!

Service was good. Patio dining is relaxing. Interoir is well appointed and inviting Unfortunately, for the price the food was just "OK". A salad dressed with EVOO for $10.00- not remarkable. A member of our group ordered the Spicy Skillet Roasted Whole Prawns ($15.00) and gave me a bite. Beautiful presentation, but lacked flavor. Also got a bite of the TINY polenta disc that accompanied it which was the highlight on the plate. The french fries and burger ($15.00) were nicely done. Also got a taste of the Watermelon and Rock Shrimp Salad ($14.00). "Good", but there was a minimal amount of shrimp on the plate. With so many stellar choices in Napa Valley, probably won't go again.

I have to honestly say that they have one of the best burgers I've ever tried in my life! We stopped in for some drinks and a snack before dinner. We split a burger 4 ways and I want to go back for my own burger. They put a BONE MARROW SPREAD ON YOUR BURGER! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR AND GIVE ME MORE!!! And just to add to that....they cook their fries in duck fat....AWESOME.

Been here many times....Very lively, fun place. Great Appetizers and the burger is messy good. Get it with bone marrow for extra omph! The bar is top notch. The entire staff including the kitchen is eager to please. A real gem.

this was a cool spot in the Napa area--not pretentious at all, unlike many of the other restaurants around. felt like an upscale tavern, but the decor was very warm and welcoming. drinks were as good as everyone is saying. after being in Napa for a few days and drinking a ton of wine, this was a nice reprieve. food was very good as well. I had the bass which was very tasty, and i tried some of my boyfriend's french fries which were delicious. definitely recommend stopping in if you are in the area!

My boyfriend and I can probably be considered Napa Valley regulars and so far we haven't made a trip that has not included a meal at the Goose and Gander. The fabulously remodeled main entrance and courtyard are so inviting and beckon a venture over the threshold. The main dining area is decorated in birding theme and the cozy leather booths are warm and sultry. Whether you're there as a couple or with a large group the staff is sure to make your experience is stellar. The cocktails are exceptionally well crafted and after a day of wine a welcome change. Each one is a delight to the eyes as well as the taste buds. For food you can't go wrong with the watermelon salad in summer, the scallops (ask for the appetizer a an entree and they will add an extra scallop for a nominal fee), or the burger with the duck fat fries. If you are feeling like an earthy fall treat try adding the wild mushrooms and blue cheese to the fries for a taste experience unlike any other. My boyfriend loves the burger and orders it every time. I'm a huge fan of the homemade pickles. After dinner saunter down the stairs to the bar where you will be welcomed by the glowing fire in the fieldstone fireplace and the original acorn lamps and restored Martini House bar. The atmosphere is vintage but the cocktails are innovative and the atmosphere like your favorite hometown bar. I plan on making many trips back to G&G in the future. Cheers to you!

Herbs do not belong on the bar. Good service, good food. The hamburger was excellent, pork chop very tasty. Presentations first class. Bar is intimate and nice. There are herbs up and down the bar for use in making drinks, including basil and others. Problem is they overwhelm the smells from the food, interfere with ability to enjoy a glass of wine and make the bar look cluttered and like an garden. Herbs overpower everything and need to be moved.

This new hotspot in St. Helena is off to a great start! Chef Kelly & GM Marcus are a solid team. Great roasted Bone Marrow, amazingly tender grilled Octopus & super tasty slow cooked Lamb breast! A perfect end to a long day at work........

  • Joe J.

Great cocktails and super helpful bar tender. Loved our waiter who really tried to make up for a couple reasons for the lack of a better review. The duck fries, the mushrooms, the stuffed figs and marrow were all to die for. The flat iron too was cooked perfectly but the pulled pork dish over pasta really did resemble kraft mac and cheese as a previous reviewer stated, but the failure was really the front of house staff who seemed indifferent and frankly a little too into there own conversations as opposed to making it happen, most notably the too young girl who simply has a long way to go to understand the value of being the first to greet diners. This place has some work to do.

I went to Goose & Gander last night for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day, as well as my brother and SIL's Anniversary. Overall, we had a fantastic time, enjoying the food, service and decor tremendously! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting some serious Bistro or upscale pub food. Everything we ordered had a unique flavor profile and was well executed. My only two pieces of constructive criticism (definitely not bad, but little touches I think they could make) are subtle things - definitely nothing major. I ordered my salad with the dressing on the side and instead, it came somewhat heavily tossed. I could have sent it back, however, I was hungry and it really was lovely. I felt bad sending back a perfectly good salad, due to a slight oversight. The other two things are so inconsequential, I feel a bit silly sharing them, but will in the hope that they might make the restaurant soar from being fantastic, to absolutely exceptional. 1) we ordered raw oysters and they were served with mignonette, which was great, yet the mignonette had no way to be transferred to the oyster. A demitasse spoon would have been helpful, as instead we had to be a bit inappropriate and pour the mignonette on the oyster, as well as use our appetizer fork to add the cocktail sauce - and 2) a bread option would have been a nice addition, even if we had to order/pay for it. It may be available, but we didn't ask. Other than that, we truly enjoyed our evening and our meal. For only having been open a couple of weeks, they are doing an amazing job! If you're looking for an indulgent, delectable dinner with an intimate hunting lodge meets romantic atmosphere, Goose & Gander is a fantastic choice. Great job and thanks for joining the Napa Valley!

This is the BEST new restaurant in Napa Valley / St Helena. The service is top notch & the drinks are to die for. Can't get any better than this & at a exceptional price. 11$ for a top shelf UNIQUE & CREATIVE drink where other restaurants in napa charge 15$ for a bad drink. This place is my FAVORITE in the valley!!!!

The food is not so great. Just a heads up before you get deep into ordering. Its hard to find something terribly edible, but the drinks downstairs are very good. Just watch out for the sound issues. Uncomfortably ear splitting down there when its busy.

Come one come all. This is the best burger ever. Not just saying it. Get it as it comes and be ready to surprise yourself when you finish it all. We tell everyone through conversation this is the burger to have. If you dare the drive or stop by here in St. Helena try the burger with a beer instead of a glass of wine. Try Changing it up with a Bavik-De Brabandere Petrus Oud Bruin a Sour Pale Ale aged in Oak from Brussels, Belguim and a St Bernard Brouwerij from abbey Tripel, Belgium Cheers, enjoy and Prost.

Dined for lunch this past weekend on a recommendation from a family member. Colin our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Exceptional service. Started with the yellow tomato gazpacho. fabulous! We took Colin's recommendation for the burger and BLT sandwich. Awesome tastes but filling. The french fries are incredible. Great setting and location to have a restful lunch while in wine country. The bar in the lower level is intimate and cozy. Very creative drink menu. Will come back! Fun

Ron Swanson would be so proud of this place. They actually have Lagavulin which is one of the best single malt scotches ever which goes great with the best steak I've ever had here. The flat iron steak was perfect I almost ordered a second. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and I never write reviews ever - Lolita's husband

Started off with a cocktail featuring both bourbon and Ardberg scotch, with coconut apple foam on top. Despite the description, it was a smoky masculine drink, expertly made. I am extremely picky about cocktail quality, and this place could really do no wrong in that department... everyone in my party had two different drinks and all of them were superb and showed great understanding of the ingredients. I also had the best Aviation cocktail of my life. Highly recommended for the bar alone, the bartenders there are experts. Smoked corn croquettes were lovely, Cuban influenced fried balls of corn dough with a subtle sweetness and tasty pieces of sweet corn inside. Roasted bone marrow was delicious, with an acidic white wine mustard sauce. The duck fat fries seem to be something of a specialty here, to tell you the truth I didn't notice a difference between them and regular fries.. well-made nonetheless. My entree was the burger, which was rare as requested and had some fantastic bacon and gruyere on top. For dessert I had a giant peanut butter cup that I believe was filled with peanut butter ice cream and was just the right amount of salty. Pretty outdoor seating with rocks, fountains, and plants hanging from the roof. Everything everyone ordered was top notch, the outdoor ambiance was well done, and the bar was truly excellent. I've been twice and will definitely try to go again next time I'm in California.

I still can't stop thinking about the Scarlet Gander...... I wish I could go back to have one again. The spot is very cute, quaint, and has an amazing outdoor patio for food and drinks. Prices are very reasonable. Their cocktail list is extensive and impressive. We started off with the scarlet gander, Walters Manhattan, and an order of fried olives and pistachios. Both drinks were to die for! The Scarlet Gander honestly tastes like fruit punch, but don't be fooled, it has a nice kick! I could drink it for days! The fried olives were tasty, but seemed unhealthy and a tad oily. Loved them nonetheless. :P Then went on to the small charcuterie platter. The Coppa was the best part. All meats were good quality though! Entrees were the Burger and the Roasted Chicken. We also had the Bali spiced old fashion and the pear shrub. Pear shrub is very heavy on the Rosemary flavor. So if you don't like Rosemary, beware. Bali spiced old fashion is the best whiskey drink they have in my opinion. Burger was definitely decent and flowing with juices, but the showstopper was.............. the Chicken! I don't think I've EVER been impressed with a chicken dish at a restaurant, EVER. I mean... It's chicken!!! But wowowowWOW, this chicken dish was so savory, so delectable, so juicy and tender!!! Mind. Blown. How is it possible to make chicken that delicious?!? Tell me your secrets!!! Please??! Ok, enough rambling. Moral of the story = this place is a must visit!!!

Food (*** out of *****); The burger is good. The meat is grass fed and moist. The buns are baked in house of a bread that is kinda like a big pretzel roll. It's kinda chewy. You might like it, but I'm not crazy about it. It is special. I've never seen that used as a hamburger bun before. They also put a scrap of foie gras in the burger, about an ounce of foie gras. If you like pretzel roll buns, give this category 4 stars instead of 3. The duck fat fries did not have any duck fat aroma nor taste. They were just greasy fries with normal grease on it. They probably just used normal oil with just a tiny bit of duck fat in it to fry it with. Service (** out of *****); Mcdonald's level service in a place that serves $33 hamburgers. If I paid $2 for a hamburger, I'd expect to get whatever they cook up. I don't expect to get it "my way". If I paid $32 for a hamburger, not including tax, tips, and drinks, I expect a bit of customization in my burger, within reason. The waiter and/or the chef refused to budge one bit. They did not make any substitutions for my food allergy. I requested that they put a bit of fried or oven crisped duck skin on my burger instead of the bacon. In a restaurant that specializes in serving duck and goose, that's entirely a reasonable request. The waiter said, "I'll see what I can do," but did absolutely nothing and did not bother to explain why. All he did was bring food out like a Mcdonald's employee or a "special" person. Atmosphere (**** out of *****); My friend and I ate with her doggie in the outdoor seating area of the restaurant. They are dog friendly. Conclusion (** out of *****); Very poor value. I'm not crazy about the buns as they were hard and chewy. Poor customer service. Expensive prices. You could literally throw an entire party McDonald's for the price I paid for one burger here. Average was 3 stars, but I deducted a point for poor value as it is overpriced for what you are getting. The burger is good, but just overpriced, given their lack of customer service. I told the waiter the hamburger buns were chewy and he just shrugged. If he had replaced the buns with another bread that they had in the kitchen and substituted crisped duck skin instead of bacon in the burger, this place would've gotten 5 stars. I'm usually not this picky, but when I'm paying $33 for a hamburger, I can afford to be picky about what I eat.

Went here on a recommendation from Angie @ Trefethen and OMG! The place sits nice and cozy on a corner with a nice outdoor ambiance. We were approached and seated very quickly and the service was great from the start. Our waiter was nice, had recommendations for appetizers and was on point. My girl and I both had The G&G Burger ~ Grass Fed Beef, Gruyere, Bacon, Remoulade, Manhattan Pickle, Duck Fat Fries..I think it may very well be the BEST burger I have ever had thus far. Im not saying there isn't a better burger out there but I have not had it. This was something else and the duck fat fries... WOWZA! Great place! Def coming back!

This restaurant/bar is a block off Hwy 29 and easily overlooked. It is really two venues. Upstairs is an attractive peaceful restaurant for a quite dinner. Downstairs is a lively bar scene with several tables for dining as well. You get to choose what mood you are in and dine accordingly. This seems like it would also be a great place for a drink or two if you are in the area. The food is above average and the menu, while small, is varied enough that everyone should find something. Looking at the appetizers, I can see drinks and hors d'oeuvres as an attractive option here. Wine was a little pricy but the food prices were reasonable. Well worth the visit. I would come back with friends.

Goose and gander is great. They don't have goose, but they do have a hamburger you can order with marrow on top that you will like. They also have ample parking and a cocktail list they will present to you even if it's noon on a Tuesday. My kind of restaurant.

After a full day of wine tasting around the St. Helena area, one of my best friends and I came here for light dinner and drinks before heading out - definitely a good choice for us to hang out on a nice warm spring day :) Rosemary Pear Shrub: Deliciously refreshing cocktail! :) Gin and ginger - winning combo in my book for sure Polenta Cakes: Mmm really cute Polenta cakes that come in a cast iron container. If you want to order and split an entree this is a great little filler. Duck Leg Confit: SO SO GOOD! The skin was cooked to perfection and the meat was tender and fall off the bone. It is a bit rich and salty but it's topped with some fresh greens to cut the fat a bit. Overall, really all you can ask for after a day winery hopping. Service was excellent and they let us hang out in the patio area after eating inside - really beautiful area; nice place to hang out at the end of the day.

I really wanted to like Goose & Gander. Unfortunately from the moment we entered and by the time we left, I was underwhelmed and even a little peeved by my experience. Upon entering, the two hosts were off to the side and took a minute chatting/giggling before acknowledging us and even then didn't really say much. I had to introduce myself and inform them of my reservation. They sat us at a small tight table for four. We were a party of four. After being seated we noticed the booths against the wall that looked more spacious. We asked our server if we can move there. Sadly, she said those were for parties of 5-6 people. No more than 10 minutes later, a group of 4 was seated in one of the booths. And about 30 more minutes another group of 4 was seated in the adjacent booth. I was really trying not to make a big deal about it cause I know if I had shown any emotions, my group would have made a scene... ; ) Anyways, let's get to the food. Ordered: - beef tartar - corn coquettes - salad - duck confit - pork t-bone - burger - sturgeon - wild mushrooms - polenta cakes Most of the dishes were 3-stars at best. The only notable dish was the pork t-bone. Nicely cooked. Great flavors. Otherwise, everything else was just "meh". I don't think I will be back. There are so many better options in Napa.

My brother and I ate here while traveling in the Napa Valley. Both the exterior and interior decor create a sense of privacy and intimacy. The dining area is dark and quiet, unlike so many other Napa Valley restaurants. We had excellent service and the food was quite good. If you don't want to have dinner here, you can head downstairs to the bar area which is like an old fashioned rathskeller.

I liked it more when the bartenders had less SF tude. I can also never understand why they close down at midnight either, inevitably missing extra revenue. Anyway, the downstairs bar exudes great atmosphere, especially if you have a fun crowd of friends

We came for a Monday night dinner. Reservations were easy although its not technically high season yet. We started by having the duck fat fries, croquettes, and fried olives and pistaschios. All of these were awesome! To drink I had the Scarlet gander which is my personal favorites, although their drink menu is so deep I definitely havent all of them to know if it is the best they haveto offer. For dinner we had the mushroom soup, steak taretare, duck lef confit, bone marrow, and gnocchi. The mushroom soup and duck leg were some of the best I have ever had. The steka taretare was good but nothing noteworthy. I didnt see all the hype in the bone marrow. It tasted a little fast and soft. The gnocchi barely had any gnocchi... I will definitely be coming back for cocktails and small bites!

It's been a while since I was last here-- maybe over a year, so I was looking forward to reconnecting with some old favorites, specifically the Spicy Skillet Roasted Whole Prawns and the The G&G Burger with marrow (for my friend, who I was introducing the restaurant to). We had a noon reservation and got there at 11:59, but the doors were locked. The doors promptly opened at 12:00 p.m. When we were seated and started to review the menu, I noticed some of the items had changed-- no biggie, but the prawns were missing. This dish was a staple that was featured on their website, so I asked the server if it was just out of season, or if they were no longer doing this dish. To my disappointment, it was then that I found out that there was a new chef in town. I ended up ordering the agnolotti, which was equally as disappointing as finding out I would never be eating Spicy Skillet Prawns ever again. The pasta on the agnolotti was thick and dense, so the filling inside, which was ricotta, was barely unrecognizable. If the menu didn't say there was ricotta inside, I would have never known. The ham broth that was poured table side was pretty good, but a little salty. The dish was served with summer vegetables (a variety of squash and tomatoes), pancetta, and microgreens on top. One of the squash, probably zucchini, was cut in an odd manner-- kind of like an egg or orb. It wasn't as tender as the other squash, probably because of the size. I removed the microgreens that were on top, because the flavors were not complimentary to the dish (at least for me). There was also some sort of gel cube that was acidic. I didn't know what it was, but didn't think it was complimentary to the dish either. I started to get the feeling the chef might be into molecular gastronomy. These feelings were confirmed after we saw the dessert menu. Our eyes were on the Compressed Melon (Santa Rosa Plum, Lychee Gelee, Soy Espuma, Sake Granita, Candied Black Sesame). Get my drift? The runner who delivered our food was either new or not properly trained. When he delivered the agnolotti, and I asked him what the garnish was (they were the microgreens) on top, he said he didn't know, but guessed it was fennel. This I definitely knew it wasn't. Then the next time he came out with the Compressed Melon, I asked about the different components in the dessert, and he didn't know them very well either. He said there were 6 melons-- we counted cantaloupe, watermelon and honeydew, but don't think we say any other melons. But who knows, maybe we overlooked them, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The dessert was probably the saving grace of the meal, but still not enough to inspire me for a return visit anytime soon. As long as they keep the G&G Burger on the menu, I think there is something to come back for (with a guest).

Had ANOTHER outstanding experience via Colin, our fantastic server. I continue to come back and request him. I suggest you do too! Had the aviation, the spaniard, but my FAV was their sloe gin fizz!! Might I recommend the cheese plate.. The Dungeness crab & pork belly was heaven...

Where do I begin?? Let me start by saying that I have operated some of the premier restaurants in S.F. & Beverl Hills so I can be a brutal critic (to a fault at times). I slated a dinner reservation last Saturday night to celebrate a friend's 40th bday after a day of wine tasting. We walked downstairs to the bar first to check out the digs and once we hit the second stair the smell of fresh herbs was so powerful that it stimunlated all of my and my wife's senses; it was insane the way it sparked a conversation about it. The cocktails we ordered between 9 people were all spot on and delicious. The food was all very well prepared as well. I had the scallop appetizer and the pork t bone and both were executed perfectly. The service could not have been more seamless. Brandon was poised, well versed in all of his menus and knew precisely how to navigate a group of wine tasting fools (not his first rodeo). The General Manager, Marcus, came and introduced himself to ensure our group was enjoying themselves. I was vey impressed with his demeanor. He is the consummate host. He eminates hospitality in his spirit. Many operators fake it and do a pretty good job at it but you can tell he is genuine and a pro thru and thru; they are lucky to have scored him! Next time my wife and I dine it will be in their downstairs bar and we intend on soaking up the ambience down there along with a few tasty libations. This visit we sat on the patio and it was serene as well. The build out was not cheap but to take the reigns from the longstanding Martini House means you are filling some damn big shoes. They knocked it out of the park with a home run. Run don't walk to experience the best of St Helena. This place will be around for a LONG time as long as they stay the course with a consistent dining experience.

The downstairs bar came as a recommendation from the owner of a house we were renting and it was a good one. Great cocktails, great food, great service, and a fun atmosphere.

We had lunch today, which is Sunday. Not crowed - we got a table right away at 1pm. We ordered the oyster salad, couscous and scallops, and the port pasta in squash sauce. Wife did not care for the salad - something she did not like about the cheese. I that it was good. Both of us liked the scallops and pasta dishes a lot. Service was excellent. We will return. A side note - the music at the restaurant was 70's/80's rock, which seemed out of place as I think of this place as a "classy" place to eat. When it was Martini House, I think the music was more subdued. As a boomer, after a glass of wine it grew on me.

Nice cocktails, very good service, tasty food, but smallish portions and not so small prices. Pretty much what I expect from a place like this in the wine country.

The food was delicious (try the cream of mushroom soup and the bucatini with Berkshire pork sugo). The high-end, retro cocktails were delciously hand-crafted by mixologist Scott Beattie (try the winter gander). The ambiance is warm and inviting (think modern, hunting lodge with a fun, cozy basement bar, and hidden garden patio). And, the service and wait staff were some of the best we had in all of Napa Valley. Definitely make a reservation 'cause the place was jammin!

This place is a true find- great atmosphere and amazing food- too bad we had a cruel and arrogant server. He is belligerent and rude- he was annoyed by our questions and was impatient with any request- I'd give this place a great review if it weren't for the server. The owner is losing money with a server like this...as well as a quality reputation: the server Michael boarders on terrifying and rude it's rare that I would credit a poor experience to one server- but this guy ruins it for the entire place.

The cocktails are very tasty and every dish I've tried so far have been excellent. Striped bass and Salmon will delight fish lovers and gnocchi is always prepared well. The outside dining is so secluded from the buzz of St Helena but so convenient too There are established colorful plantings and a Koi pond that gardeners will appreciate. I'm sold on the atmosphere inside because it is so welcoming and warm. It's interesting to look at the 50's style decor that adorn the friendly restaurant. I will return often to my new favorite restaurant.

Our wine tasting hostess / ex-bartender recommended this place to my girlfriend and I at V. Sattui Winery so we decided to check it out. Initial impression was pretty awesome I enjoyed the walk to the downstairs entrance to the bar / cocktail area of the restaurant where we sat in one of the booths. Enjoyed the darker lighting they had setup and the scarlet gander cocktails were excellent. Dried fruit / cheese appetizer was pretty pretty good. Will definitely be back again !

I am in love with their cocktails and their food!! We followed this amazing chef from Ella's in Sacramento. I knew we would not be disappointed. Chef McCowan is an artist with what he can do with food. Well worth it to dine and have drinks.

First timers. Had a party of six. Service both in the downstairs pub and in the dining room was terrific. Thanks Thomas. Loved the attention to detail. Found the Bites portion of the menu to he the highlight. First. Courses were all good. Found the entree section to lack imagination. Everyone does chicken, salmon steak etc. Embrace the concept in the name of the restaurant and grow the menu!

Went here the other day for lunch and drinks, everything was on point. The G and G Burger was soooo good! I added Marrow which made it so much more juicier. And the Drinks were Superb hands down best place for drinks in St. Helena no question.

In all fairness, we know one of the owners, Marcus. That said, the quality of food on a recent visit certainly impressed. Nice decor, friendly staff and awesome cocktails. Thoroughly enjoyed the salmon and green beans and the San Marzano tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich is the perfect comfort food. Very proud of Marcus and team making good in the heart of the wine country. No need to be a hater, just talk to the boss and things will get better immediately as there is definitely pride in ownership at G&G.

After a concert at the winery, it is not easy to find a restaurant which is open late. It was our luck, that this one was open. Rather limited menu. The reception was not too friendly, but they probably wanted to close. Thank you for accommodating our party of 6 people.

This place is a hidden gem. On a side street in St. Helena it has a sweet setting for outdoor eating but a great interior as well. The waiters know the menu and offer great advice. There are two waiters that have been there since it opened (sorry, forgot their names) who really know their stuff. The food is top notch, and presented beautifully. I had a great experience there. They have a sister restaurant in Napa that specializes in BBQ and is excellent as well.

Went to an early dinner tonight, it was my wife's birthday and after a day of wine tasting we were hungry. We had been to this location before when it was Spring St. restaurant and later Martini House. We started in the bar with drinks and the braised meatballs, both were great! The bar staff were both friendly and well informed. We went upstairs for dinner and decided to just keep ordering small plates. We shared the halibut ceviche, the day boat scallops, and the watermelon and rock shrimp salad. Each dish was well balanced, beautifully prepared and presented. The flavors that stood out for me was the jalapeno/cilantro sauce with the scallops and the pickled bean sprouts in the watermelon salad. Both were unique and great additions to each plate. The service we experienced at Goose & Gander was spot on. I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Well to start with I have to say that after my second visit here last night my Wife and I will never be returning. For background we are both locals, born in Sonoma and Napa counties respectively, and both have been in the high end service industry. The first time we visited G&G we got beyond abysmal service,(Our server didn't even take our Entree order until well after our busser cleared our app plates) under cooked scallops and "duck fat fries" that tasted remarkably like regular fries. This was in Aug of '12 when they were a reasonably new business and we thought to ourselves "Well, they are having some start up hiccups perhaps. Maybe we'll try again in 6-12 months." Well that time came last night. We came 10 min early for a 7:30 reso and were promptly seated. We started with the server just coming out of nowhere and without even telling us his name began to tell us about the specials, then asked us if he could get us something to drink. My Wife was ready but I said I would need 1-2 minutes. After a full 10 minutes I was finally able to make eye contact and he came over and took our orders, we had had enough time at this point to decide what we wanted to eat as well. My wife got a Manhattan and the Steak, I ordered one of their specialty cocktails, the Bali Spice Old Fashioned and the Sturgeon. The drinks came out in rocks glasses with an ice cube the size of a baseball. When I removed the iceberg there was approximately a shot and 1/2 of liquid. When I asked the waiter if I could have a cocktail without the iceberg because I wanted a drink with more than a shot in it he argued with me about the quantity of liquid in the glass, but took them both back to the bartender. He returned with the 2 drinks that were now brim full with just regular ice cubes and informed me that with the bigger ice cube there was 2.5 oz in the glass and with the regular ice cubes there was only 2 oz. So basically his answer to me wanting a real drink for my $11 was to bring me a lesser replacement drink and inform me that I had just screwed myself by returning the previous one with the iceberg in it. So after our first visit this was inexcusable. With so many other good places to go in the valley I wouldn't subject myself to this service again. I do have to say though my Sturgeon was very delicious and my Wife's steak, although slightly overcooked, was pretty good as well, although not even close to good enough to make me want to go back. I should also mention that their wines by the glass prices are straight up highway robbery.

The Goose and Gander is a great place to go and enjoy fresh food and a cocktail! The stone fire place and speakeasy feel to the bar provided me with the great escape I was looking for!

I have been twice. The first time when they first opened, sat on patio, good food, not so good service, but AMAZING cocktails that made you forget that anything was not perfect. The second time I went for lunch--the food blew me away (the cocktails still good); get the grilled octopus! Services was really good second time; I'm thinking the first time it was just an off night.

I just dined here and I was thrilled that I have found a new local restaurant with excellent food and a fine dining experience. Our server was a handsome young man, of course that was a plus, and he was attentive but not overbearing. I ordered a Ramos Fizz, which most bartenders don't have the slightest idea how to make and when they do it always falls short of my expectations. But, the drink was PERFECT!. If I wasn't driving I would have had another one since o this drink is somewhat like a Gin milkshake. The younger generation is learning about this old fashioned drink and once you have had one, you'll be hooked! Kudos to the bartender!I was also impressed with the food. The presentation was fantastic and the citrus salad, scallops appetizer and wahoo fish entree was exquisite. I live in N. Santa Rosa and I will gladly take the drive to St. Helena to dine here. Their wine list is outstanding with great local wines. There is a lovely outdoor dining area but we sat inside near the fireplace. It was cozy and welcoming. The downstairs bar looked like a great place to enjoy a drink with friends. I don't usually leave a review after one visit to a restaurant but this place is amazing, the serving staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was excellent! Don't miss this little jewel in the lovely town of St. Helena. It's a wonderful dining experience!

I was at that same dinner that was mentioned earlier and I'm very sorry to read about Donna's review. My dinner was a perfect portion with lots of flavor. I also felt the service was great, Heather and Woody were on top of it all. The set up they had for our group was beautiful and we have to remember the price included a 3 course meal, the private room, free corkage, coffee and tea service, as well as gratuity and taxes. In planning a selective menu for a large group, it's difficult to please everyone. For those reading these reviews, I would suggest you definitley try Goose and Gander and determine for yourself.

My wife and I stopped by on Saturday, May 19th at about 3 pm. We ate appetizers and enjoyed a very delicious cocktail, called a Cucumber Collins. We had the mushroom spring rolls, scallops and the most amazing meatballs. Incredible flavors, fair price, wonderful outdoor eating area. Our waiter Jeff, was knowledgeable, courteous and a fun guy to talk to. Next time you see the Rutherford Grill on your way up valley.... keep going. Stop in St. Helena for one of the better meals in the Valley.

Food was very good. The smell in the bar from all the plants was annoying, really need to do away with that. Service was ok. The waitress never introduced herself and seemed dis interested.

Incredible dissapointment. The evening started out on a positive note but quickly went south. The service was slow and fragmented, the cocktails came out warm, my steak was so tough a chainsaw would have been handy. No apologies were given and nothing was removed from the bill. It is busy right now but we will wait and see what happens.

As a "wanna be" foodie and someone who travels a lot I have to tell you I couldn't have been more impressed by G&G. Last weekend I was in the Valley on business and after all of the "hype" I had to make the trip to St. Helena to see for myself what other foodie friends were talking about. We brought two of our own bottles (a Pinot Noir and a Petite Sirah) and while the manager started decanting those we started off with their Cucumber Collins which was a very refreshing drink. It wasn't too "foo foo" or so over powering that someone who liked fruity drinks would not enjoy. A great way to start. By the way, unlike some places in Napa, these guys know the difference between all of their wine glasses. For food, we started off with the Day Boat Sea Scallops that had a jalapeno sauce on them which gave them a perfect punch. From there we moved on to the Pork Shoulder which was so tender you could cut it with a fork and very full of flavor. I would have been fine without greens for the night, but we ended up splitting the Arugula Salad which the server was kind enough to pre-split on to two plates. For main courses we split the the burger and the flat iron steak. Perfect match with the Petite Sirah. While I wouldn't be lying if I told you how good the flat iron steak was, I really want to tell you HOW AMAZING the burger was (and the onion ring on top). It's something truly special. There are plenty of great places to eat at in Napa/St. Helena, but I would recommend doing this one sooner than later, before everyone figures it out. Cheers

OMG! I was devastated when Martini House closed but I love Goose & Gander! The space has been renovated so that the space makes sense but they kept the wonderful, warm charm that wraps you in a hug and makes you feel welcome. Everyone at my table raved about every piece of food that went into their mouths - poppers, meatballs, scallops, the pork belly "wedge", chicken, halibut, salmon and steak. All yum! I am dying to try the burger - next time, for sure!!

We have tried G&G twice in the last couple of months and both times found that it surpassed our expectations with excellent food, cozy indoor/casual posh outdoor atmosphere and great waitstaff. It is as if they want me to have exceptional food and a great experience; what a refreshing concept.

A great find! Our server was awesome - he was very knowledgable with regard to the wines. His suggestions for dinner were terrific . The wedge salad was quite tasty . The hamburger was so juicy and enough to share if your not too hungry. The fries were done just right . After getting my fingers sticking with the burger - the server's assistance brought me a wet towel w lemon (without my asking) Dessert was delicious coconut cake w vanilla ice cream - yum . My husband and I will definitely return

First time at Goose and Gander. We share several of the "Tapas" style plates. Loved almost all of them , especially the Scampi. They have done a great job relocating the Main entrance to the front which makes a lot of sense. The restaurant and the bar are very cosy, however the noise level in the bar can be very loud.

My husband and I went to this restaurant last week when we were in Napa Valley with friends. We went off a recommendation from a local winery and we had to admit the food was outstanding. We had the scallop appetizer with pancetta and it was delicious, tasty and a wonderful way to begin the meal. I had the burger for my entree and it was the BEST burger I've had in several years. It was juicy, and cooked to perfection (medium in this case). I added the bone marrow and oh my gosh, every bite was a bit of heaven. Other people had steaks or salmon and they all thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. Here's the but...our service left something to be desired. Our waitress was either overtaxed by too many tables or just didn't get it. The house staff did not seem to appreciate taking a team approach to service. We brought our own wine in and had to open one of the bottles ourselves because we got sick of waiting for them to do it. When a manager is standing around doing nothing and watching it happen that says something to me about the quality of service. If there was more of a team approach they might have more success. This is my only hesitation on recommending this place because the food was excellent and I could see kitchen from our table (it's quite an open area), and the kitchen staff was on their game. They had the timing down for every table's food so nothing sat waiting. I would go again for the burger, but know that my service might be lacking. We all decided we'd forgive them on this for the wonderful food.

We just returned from an impressive lunch at Goose & Gander. We were glad to see that the new owners have improved on the layout and landscaping of the old Martini House garden, which is a Napa Valley treasure. They also have an interesting new vision for the food that aligns very well with the Craftsman/Prairie Style heritage of the property. It's what we would call "new prairie style cuisine," a lot like what we are seeing in the sharper Chicago restaurants of late, and it is masterfully executed. We had a wonderful Charcuterie Plate from a local artist, along with outstanding Roasted Bone Marrow, generous servings in both cases. The latter came with a shaved Fennel and Parsley Salad with Capers, simple but delicious. We moved on to a crispy Seared Striped Bass with heirloom tomatoes and Saffron Poached Mussels. There were other choices we had to pass up, including the Arugula and Endive Salad, which showcased Blenheim Apricots, a rare treat that "fruties" should appreciate for their rarity. These types of details suggest a sophistication of vision that could be lost in a casual setting free of tablecloths and staffed by friendly, t-shirt clad servers. But we think the approachability of the food and experience will win diners over. We noted that is a place we will bring our out of country visitors when we take them to Napa, as it showcases classic American food in a very thoughtful and original way...light and flavorful, and clever.
